I recently replaced my original DuraSpark Control Module with an aftermarket from Autozone. It is for my '86, 351W, and has the yellow gromet. The aftermarket has worked fine, but I have an opportunity to pick up another DuraSpark Control Module that has a yellow grommet, but different Ford part number. Does anyone know if these two are interchangeable? I'm not that familiar with the DuraSpark system, but have been reading up on it. Thanks again for the help!
The part number should be the same as the strain relief color indicates its useage basically. Yellow is known as a California or high altitude module while blue is the most common. There are other colors for commercial and industrial applications.
Maybe someone knows more than me on this but I believe they should all be interchangeable. As far as the yellow goes I am not sure if there is a difference but I do know in '78 for my 351w the yellow was used for two different features the first was for a baro switch and the other is what I call a primitive map sensor as it reads manifold vacuum and advances the ignition more than the vacuum advance based off vacuum. It was as my shop manual states a economy sensor to improve fuel economy.
A little, and very little, looking will find this thread (Duraspark Variants?) that was started basically 48 hours ahead of this one. And, a bit of reading will answer the question.
