I know that I have read here that the duraspark control module with the blue connector works on 4, 6, and 8 cylinder motors. A friend on mine borrowed on I took off of a 300 straight six and used it on a 302 conversion from efi to carb. He said above 5000 rpms the motor started to cut out like it was running out of gas. Someone he talked to, asked him if the control module came from a straight six motor (which it was). The guy told him to put one on it from a V8. He swapped it out and it ran way much better. The guy told him that the straight six control module doesn't work at higher rpm's due to it not meant to run above 5000 rpm's.
Has anyone every came across this or heard of this before?
Numberdummy can give you the straight scoop from the Ford part manuals. I have never heard of a difference. But then any module can be bad on the high RPM side so a sample size of one unknown condition module is not exactly reliable.
Also there is a big quality difference between a genuine Motorcraft ignition module and aftermarket units also.

Something smells and it ain't hay. The "good" BLUE module was used on all 4, 6 and V8 cylinder engines. There's also the crappy RED module, which was also used on 4, 6 and V8's.

I have never seen one of those red modules. I have seen green, yellow, black and blue tho... Maybe they were all "retired" somehow.
I never saw a purple cow, I hope I never see one. But if I saw a purple cow, I'd rather see than be one! - Frank Norris
You never saw or had a red module? Consider yourself fortunate. You wouldn't want one any more than you would want a purple cow. They are an abomination on any vehicle they were used on.

It wasn't a motocraft one, if I remember correctly it was a Standard brand. Maybe I should let him borrow my Motorcraft one and see if it makes a difference.
Standard... Yuck! I have placed a number of those on the dead pile...
Standard, Borg Warner, store brands, all junkers. At least have the module tested at the parts store. Some parts store testers are better than others tho.
A question, has anybody ever reversed engineered the Duraspark modual yet? or know of any schematics of the internal circuts?
I don't know of any, but if someone does, I'd really love to see it. I tried to get one apart once, but I had a really hard time tearing out the epoxy underneath, so I gave up. If you have any luck getting a schematic I'd really be interested in seeing it.
I guess I'll find a module that had the epoxy melt out of it(seen it happen before) and start tracing componets. I was able to get a MCU(not a ECC system)from a 82 Marquis 302/aod out of its epoxy(3 hours later even with half epoxy melted out) and will start tracing it out as I could not find anything about it.
