the Overdrive off button on the end of my shifter has been acting up for a while. Used to work if I pushed the button while I had the shifter pulled up, then it got worse and I had to wiggle it to make it work, now it seems to have quit all together. With the wiggling fixing the issue for a while I'm wondering if it's a connection at the base of the shifter or in the column and so in wonder if I should bother with replacing the shifter arm or what? Leaving for an elk hunt in a week and I'll most likely be pulling a trailer down so I'd like to have it working. Any ideas?
It's not the switch. 99.9999% of the time it is going to be the wires have worn through or broken where they enter the shift handle inside the column. You can remove the plastic cover from the column and either fix the wires or replace the shift handle. A new handle is about $65 at a Ford dealer.
Ok. I will look at it sunday along with an oil change. How does the switch come off the end of the shifter? Threaded or does it just pry off?
You just pry it off. If you order a new gearshift leaver it comes with the switch, end cap and overdrive wiring down to the plug. Shoot me a pm if you are interested in that stuff. I'm in ABQ, NM
