Unless I am missing something(which is a strong possibility) there is no way my 4.8 inch spring is going to stretch all the way to the hole in the frame shown in the 1967 diagram.
I think that setup calls for the much longer, thinner spring which has the same part# except for the last letter. I think I read that it is 14" long.
C7TZ-7523-G .. Clutch Return Spring - 9.16" free length with 35 coils / Obsolete ~ No Ford dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any.
1966 F100/250 2WD from serial number 830,001 / 1966 F100 4WD from serial number 830,001 / 1967/72 F100 4WD
The "mess" you mentioned in post #1 is probably the Ford "service part replacement" for this spring.
C7AZ-9737-A .. Clutch Return & Carburetor Spring. Came with a short spring and two long rods with an eyelet on one end, straight on t'other end.
The rods were cut to fit, then their straight ends were bent into eyelets. Horrible 'Mickey Mouse' replacement!

Do you have any info on what they used prior to that serial number?

This had two roughly pinky finger wide by about 4" long springs twisted together and around the engine mount. They had long straight sections to make up the distance between.
I hope I'm not coming across as argumentative or smug? I appreciate your effort and knowledge. Just trying to get to the bottom of this.
If the later 66's are like the 67's perhaps I should be researching 65's to see if they are any different?
Going with a previous thread a few years ago, I took a picture of my assembly prior to removal but did not get in the pic the front spring connection. My truck has a bracket on the steering box with a hole which looks like it is meant for the spring, however when connected at that point the spring barely rubs against the brake line bracket. Can someone with the same truck post a pic of where and how the spring is connected? Much appreciated!
