Wondering if any of you have used any of these things, and if so, which you would recommend. Found this one for $99 and it seems to give quite a lot of useful info, should your truck start to malfunction. Things like ignition timing, fuel pump pressure, intake manifold pressure, air flow rate, etc. What do you think? https://www.microdaq.com/davis-carch...ata-logger.php
Oops. I have a '96 and always post on this forum without even thinking!! It will work with my '96, but not the '87 - '95's, also on this forum. My bad......

Bosch offers a bluetooth one for OBD2 that syncs to your smartphone. Offers live data as well as code lookup and tech info.
The Torque Pro app for android phones ($5) and a $20 Elm327 bluetooth adapter work great for my 96'. Tells me mass air flow rate, manifold vacuum, drive cycle status, etc etc. Does data logging too.
I usually leave it on the gauges screen. In the picture you can see the readouts for voltage (VLT), fuel flow in gallons per hour (GPH), transmission oil temp (TOT), and water temperature (°FWT). The trans oil temp is also in °F but since it's what they call an X_Gauge the label is assigned manually and "°F" is not one of the available characters.
It also does fuel/mileage computation and reads fault codes although it will only give you the code and you have to look up the description manually. It comes packaged with some cheesy velcro strips for mounting... I hate stuff that is just "stuck" to the dash like I see a lot of people do with XM radio and GPS receivers so I took it apart and modified it into a proper panel-mount device, then installed it where the 4x4 buttons used to be before I swapped to a manual transfer case.

Wow. That is cheap!! Just ordered an Elm327 on Amazon for $9!! thanks!
There's a free version of the app too (Torque Lite). That's what i started with. Either version displays fault codes and enables you to clear them too (once the issue is repaired of course). Hopefully that adapter works well for you, I've heard mixed reviews on the very cheap ones. Sorry I didn't mention it earlier.
If it reads out sensor voltages (only seen that with a Ford dealer scanner $$), then yes there is a distinct advantage, but you may be surprised what the Torque app does (the $5 version). I browsed the scan gauge site and it doesn't look like you get any additional information with that setup, but could have missed something. I do understand the not wanting to use another device (phone) for the task though, and the permanent nature of the scan gauge is appealing.
