I have a 2007 F-350 diesel that I use Royal Purple oil in. I have heard people say to use Motorcraft filter. SHould I use the Motorcraft, K&N or the Royal Purple filter? Thanks in advance for the input.
There are threads here in the 6.0 section of problems with after market filters. The case/Ih filter is the same as the ford filter and is less $. Both filters when you open the box it will be a racor filter.

OEM seems to be the oil filter of choice on the 6.0s.
Use the Motorcraft filters. I can't find the link, but I recall a test being done. The Motorcraft filter proformed the best over the life of an oil change.
Apparently some of the filters had a finer filtering ability, but that did not last, and once clogged, the oil would bypass that layer, to prevent pressure build up.
And besides they are what the factory sends it with, generally the cheapest, and always in stock around here.
Racor, Baldwin, WIX, MotorCraft, NAPA Gold are all good. K&N and Royal Purple are supposed to be of the same quality but I dont have first hand experience with them. I was in the industrial generator service business for many years and Baldwin was our filter of choice. When you cut open a Baldwin you will see why.

Motorcraft holds a patent on their filter design, which is licensed to Racor for manufacturing. Only Racor and Motorcraft filters will fit properly, all other filters, by design, have to be slightly different.
There are many good filters out there such as Baldwin, Donaldson, etc, however in their appropriate applications. Unfortunately, the 6.0L oil filter is not an application I would recommend a substitution for. OEM is the best performing and generally cost effective compared to others.
After reading the wisdom here and doing some other research, I went ahead and went to O'Reilly's and bought the Motorcraft because of the size of the filter. I saved over $6.00 over the dealer. All is well. Thank y'all. Probably going to stick with the Motorcraft for the fuel filter. Thanks again!
Are the motorcraft filters more expensive in other parts of the country? I see these questions pop up but here in GA, Motorcraft is the same price or cheaper than everything else.
