Purolator filter question
I have used these for years, ever since I stopped using FRAM, and have been happy, but then I have never had a filter that didn't keep me happy. How can you really tell if a filter failed unless it explodes? There are also store brands that are the Purolator in a plain box. I use these when I find them. I think they are called Powerflo as sold by GI Joes in the NW.
I think I recall the studies do like the Motorcraft a bit better than the Purolator but my mind is foggy. I think the difference was the Motorcraft had a backflow valve which is important for applications where the filter is not hanging down. Go look it up if it worries you.
In any case, if you change oil and filter regularly, for most driving you will safe with just about anything you buy. It's when you get into dirty conditions or get lazy with maintenance that a premium filter makes the difference.
BTW a good series of oil and filter studies was posted by one of the guys. One of the pages address is http://www.shoclub.com/lubrication-oil/lubrication-oilpart1.htm Very good and informative series. Lots of things I haven't thought about regarding oil and filters, and I do love to read this kind of stuff. Oh, rereading this study says Purolator does make the Motorocraft but the valve type is approved in the Motorcraft but not the Purolator version. This is in part 5 BTW.
Good Luck,
Jim Henderson
