O'Reilly oil filter question

O'REILLY/MICROGARD - Oil Filter
Item #: GL45515 for 04 6.0L
$11.49 before tax

Anyone use this filter before?
I don't remember the Fram filter making noise when shaken before.
This has some type of ball where the cap sits in the top of the filter

Stick with the Ford Motorcraft filter. The diesel is very particular to that filter.

Motorcraft, Racor, or Fram are your turn to filters. My filters have no *****. I can't believe I said that.

The 6.0 and 6.4 Powerstrokes are sensitive to which filter is used. I only use the Motorcraft filters at my shop now after doing some research. It's worth paying a bit more for the correct filter and knowing it's performing correctly. I have run out a few times and will use the Napa Gold filter (believe it's made by Wix) but they are slightly different in height and the way they appear.

Here's a good video explaining the differences.

Sounds like propaganda to me. Of course they will say theirs is better. I've been using aftermarket for 50 years.

It may be Ford propaganda, but at the same time their stuff is what works best. As expensive as they can be sometimes, you must use Ford Motorcraft filters and nothing else unless you want to pay for expensive repairs. Aftermarket filters often imitate the quality of Ford's OEM filters, but can NEVER duplicate it.

Yes to Motorcraft filters, yes to Racor filters (they built the filter housing), and yes to Fram (re-boxed Racor).

So does this mean the famous Fram filter is not worth putting in your truck, and they are basically worthless? I think Fram could come up with a pretty convincing video of their own. There are different grades within brands also.

Mustang,

Interesting filter article, I haven't seen it for a while. Doesn't appply here because we are talking about a cartridge filter. And the Fram is not trash.

I have about twenty Fram CH9549 in stock, I loaded up when I first got my X on a killer sale. Most are the "Made in Germany" filters, no question about this filter. It was re-boxed by Fram because no one else was making it. Correct height, felt gasket on the bottom.

Before I was aware of the importance of having the "right" filter I had picked up some Purolator L45515. Oops. The filter is shorter than the Fram, has a detachable plastic top to clip in to the cap, and can detach. Oh well, at least it came with an O-ring.

Ex,

I'm glad you like the aftermarket. I have no problem with that. But there is good and bad aftermarket. I never said anything bad about the Fram, but this Purolator filter is what they are talking about in the Motorcraft video.

I don't trust the O'Reilly filter because the price is too cheap. It can't be quality and that is what you want for the 6.0.
