Hey everyone I'm new to the truck world and to this forum. I just bought an 04 f250 5.4l, crew cab, long bed. I love this truck but it's a little slow on the acceleration. I have Gibson headers, Gibson catback, and a Cold air inatke. I heard great things about 5 star tuning but I'm confused on what to get. I would like better perfromace and if I can, mpg. The truck says I get 9mpg average which is horrible. So any suggestions? Do I buy a tuner or do I send something in to the tunning company? I'm so lost!
You buy an sct tuner and give 5 star the strategy code from your truck using the tuner and give them all the info about the headers and other mods you have done to the truck then they send you the tunes by email and then You upload the tunes to the tuner then you tune the truck. If we're you if get gears first 4.30s if you have stock tires. Also FYI you need access to a windows computer to run the sct device updater program on the computer and upload the tunes to the tuner. You still won't be wining any races but it will perform better for sure with the altered shift and converter lock up schedules.
I have the sct live wire ts tuner and tunes from 5star and it helped tons on throttle response and over all drivability, but I did not see any improvement in mpgs. I am still happy with the tunes and tuner, but don't expect your truck to be a race truck lol.
On your 2valave 5.4 tunes will do nothing! Trust me I got sucked into that hype and spent the money and have nothing more than a four hundred dollar paper weight. Best thing you can do is gears in your truck, then I suggest a transgo HD or tigger shift kit. I did both and the are the only real increase in these trucks
Thanks for all the responses guys. I really don't expect it to be a race truck lol, I just wanted a better throttle response and a little bit of power. If I wanna race then I'd take my evo 9. The tuning thing seems a bit tough to do myself. Is there any truck tuners around New York?
