If your friend is selling it to you, and still has the original receipt from when he or she bought it, then you are in an OK place. If there's no receipt, then save your money. No receipt=NO support/upgrades/help at all from Superchips. The issues are many, but most importantly if the SCMT is compatible with the flash level of your truck--both now and in the future... I have an SCMT1704A that I got from an FTE brother. He was outstanding about getting the tuner ready for me by sending it to Superchips for an upgrade prior to selling it to me. My truck is an 03, and considering it's age and flash level, I'm pretty sure I'll have no issues with it in the future. Is the tuner you're looking at a 1704A or a newer FlashPaq (1803, I think)? If it's the FlashPaq, you may have upgrade issues. Without flat misrepresenting yourself to Superchips, you'll not be able to upgrade the tunes and firmware level via the web... The choice is yours. I was very well cared for by a knowledgeable guy selling me a performance part. My calculated risk was mitigated by preparation and thoughtfulness. I own my tuner, have no receipt, and accept the responsibility and limitations inherent to that condition. What shape are you in?
FYI... I'm saving my $$ for an SCT
well he said he has the receipt for it but with you telling me all that i just might start saving money for a sct also....thanks for the input
Happy to share... The tuner business is very competitive and product support is held close to the vest. It's the only way that the tuner manufacturing guys can continue to sell new product and stay viable as businesses.
