Been building a 400 and ran into a couple set's of cracked heads so i moved it to the side for a while. I found this 351m 12miles from my house for $150. Im gonna use the heads if there not cracked plus the intake and valve covers after a ton of cleaning, the short block will just get thrown in the corner.
LOOK BETTER?
well, if the heads arent cracked(will know next week) i'll be real happy because they dont have the thermactor injection in exhaust ports so i wont have to grind all that out.
Interesting. Check the casting number on them - I'm curious.
its D5AE AA

These heads really aren't all that bad, and if you round off the plateau around the exhaust valve guide you can get pretty good flow. They can be coaxed into decent performers, hope they work out for you!
Heads are done ready for pick up today, he said there were the best heads for a 351m/400 he has ever done, everything was in excellent shape, new springs and touched the valves, guides were like new. FINALLY, I have heads so i can finish this thing. Hows $120. sound for a pair of rebuilt heads with new springs?
yea,Darrel's a great guy, been doing engines over 30yrs. Does any of your heads have a different spring retainer on the exhaust vales from the intakes? All my exhaust ones are,all the other heads(cracked ones) the retainers were all the same,Darrel said it was Ford's fix for saving the valve guides.???????? Never herd of it but interesting. All i need to do is order bearings and assemble it now.
Yes, I have seen the different retainers on the exhaust valves, but didn't know why they were different.
$120 sounds like a great deal if your guy knows what he's doing. And it sounds like he does!
I thought they looked weak but he said im to keep them on the heads, Darrel has been helping me sense he started over 30yrs ago, he did Tim M oiling improvements on my block at no charge, he's a great guy.THANKS Bud.
