Would anyone use new heads like this?

Got my new scj heads Friday..... Would you put these on your truck?

Both heads are exactly the same, the pictures I just posted the rocker arm hole is drilled into the intake runners, the intake runner is each port. Also the accessory holes are drilled all the way to the head bolt hole, the valve cover bolts are also drilled into the intake runners.

Needless to say I found 15 problems with the construction, and 16 it came with no valves/springs. I think they are lucky I received the heads at 5:30 on a Friday.

Would anyone of you kept these and ran them?

Those would be in a box and headed back for my truck. Heads are something that little flaws make a difference. How much did you give for the heads?

Ya I'm waiting for Monday to call the place.

$621 each and both are exactly the same in all mess ups.

Bolts will leak and you can't crank valve cover bolts hard enough to stop air suction.... The way I see it is these would have caused a bad air leak that would never be found.

I would opt for the edelbrock aluminum heads that are now available. They run just over 500 for bare heads, like the ones you have. I would put money on those being of good build quality. And the advantage of aluminum over iron!

Well I'm going to try getting new ones from them 1 more time.

As you'll see this shows they are complete-

Never once says they are bare heads

If not they can refund my money or they can send some other name brand that's not complete and udder crap.

I'd send them back

I'd be on fire if they were my original heads and rebuilt like that. I hope they were cores you bought to have reconditioned.

No way should there be hanging slag metal like that, and the valve guides shouldn't be hanging out in the valve pocket. The few years I spent in the auto machinist field back in the late 80's I never saw guides hanging out like that. Seems like it would induce unwanted turbulence.

...and holes all the way into the ports!!? Threaded holes opened up into the combustion chamber?

Not only would I return them, I'd get your money back and buy from a more reputable machine shop.

These are brand new parts, with ford stampings cast into them. My originals were warped.

Ahh, nm I see that's just the spark plug hole. LOL, I thought it was some random misplaced hole by a rookie machinist. But the hanging burrs are unacceptable.

I can tell you that the valve cover bolts going into the intake runners is correct! I had and have seen several sets of SCJ heads and they all have the valve cover bolts going into the intake runners where they line up. If you look there's really not enough meat for them to do otherwise

Wouldn't the valve cover bolts like that leak since you can't get them good and tight?

It is common to have a rocker stud hole into the intake runner,(BB Chevy as a example) just use some sealer and they will seal up fine, I have not seen a valve cover bolt hole into a intake port, and the accessory hole into a head bolt hole is also common.
The valve guide into the port is fine, the longer guide is actually a good thing, it makes for more of a stable valve motion and less guide wear, unless you have roller rocker tips then the valve motion is minimized.
