2011 Escape issues

Hello everybody. I am running into some issues with my 2011 Escape 2.5L. I am pulling a total of 7 codes. Two codes keep repeating, which those are P0455 and P0457. And I am also getting a C1963. Accompanying the engine codes, my HUD is displaying "Check Fuel Inlet" when I first turn the vehicle on. Any insight to fixing these issues would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

With those two errors and the screen readout I'd guess you need a new gas cap.

Hi xSgtRenegadex,

I'd recommend making an appointment at your dealership; they're in the best position to get these codes resolved for you. How many miles are on your Escape? I'll do what I can to help out.

Thanks for the fast reply, xSgtRenegadex. Let me know if you decide to get your dealership involved. I'll be able to research options to assist once you've received a diagnosis.

You need a purge valve located near the throttle body, they are a common failure. The purge valve pulls a vacuum on the evap system and if it can't do that the computer assumes a leak is present. I am a professional mechanic and have fixed many Escapes and Mariners for this issue.

If there any way to test the purge valve. I read someone (because everything is true on the internet) that if you unplug the electrical connector to the valve and start the vehicle, that it is bad if you can still the valve is stuck open. Is this true. Or is there any other way to check the valve for functionality.

Another side note, the second code I get is the P0457 which corresponds to a loose fuel cap. Since this is the capless fuel system, I do not have a fuel cap. Can that purge valve cause both of those codes?

Thanks in advance

Crystal - Since this is part of the emission's system is it covered under warranty still?

Hi scott91370,

I can't make warranty determinations; the best resource for whether or not a repair would be covered is the service manager at your local Ford Dealership.
