Well, I thought it was fixed. It’s not. Started surging on the way into work today again after about 15 miles of driving. Felt horrible as I pulled in and popped the hood, yay we are back at 0 fuel pressure. I wanted to do this in steps to try to eliminate issues one by one… known no restriction by prefilter, known good fuel pump, known good electrical connection at pump, so next I’m bypassing the oil pressure switch completely. I know its for safety, but this is killing me. I figured if it failed it would be all or nothing, not this intermittent bull chit. I also think its odd it does it after 10 or 15 miles, not right out of the gate. Other than that I have no Idea what it may be in the fuel system. It’s absolutely lack of fuel. If this doesn’t do it, I’m putting it on a dam toggle switch and putting in a gauge to make sure before its driven again. Might be pulling the cover off the dodge for this trip…
Nick, that's a good idea. Jumper the oil pressure switch. Could be as the oil gets hot it thins out enough where the switch opens. Or could just be a bad pressure switch. Could you tell if the pump was still running when you had zero fuel pressure?

That's what I'm going to do at lunch today. I'm not going to even mess with jumpering I'm going to butt splice the two together for now. Regarding if I could hear the pump running at 0, well its pretty darn quiet compared to the clacking of these motors so I was not able to. Pump sound fine when its off and it primes, Its not like the truck is sucking much for fuel at idle.
I wonder how effed up my injectors are after all this bull chit.

You may be on to something.
Sorry I got sidetracked last night and didn't get those lines scoped out . I suck!
You were the fella who told me that when I lost the first pump Babied it home and put the other pump in. Been fine for about 4000 miles since that day...now this crap.
No worries on the pump configuration, I don't think I could have jacked it up but after all this its starting to make me wonder what is causing these to burn up so fast. I have this sick feeling that even when I get this surging issue figured out, This pump will maybe get me to my next oil change. I need a day to drop both tanks and see if the screens truly are that filthy to be causing restriction. Be a good day to put a 38 gallon in the rear too.

Thanks bud, makes me feel better! I know others have had issue with those oil pressure switches... If that turns out to be the issue I want to bring it up to strictly diesel.... 5000 miles out of a switch is a months worth of driving for some...kinda like the luck I had with the cooling mist hobbs switch for water injection...those are chinese chit too...
I'm wondering if the oil pressure switch on top of the HPOP has the proper threads to go into that port. If so it would be a good replacement and probably very high quality.

Shoot it would be worth machining an adapter if it wasn't an exact fit. I've heard of way too many people having problem with the oil switches.
Well all went well last night. Truck seemed fine on the way home but I didn't drive hard as I was pretty hesitant of injector damage. Pushed it as hard as I could towing and no hiccups. I'm hesitant to even put the oil switch back into the system if this is something that is going to happen every 6k, but.....
Well that's good to hear Nik. I believe the switch I put in was made by stuart Warner. It was pricey but looks to be quality. That being said I've only got 6k on it
