Efuel woes.....AGAIN!
I am having issues again with the efuel. I lost the original pump about 4k miles ago after only 1500 miles, and replaced with another Bosch 044. Today I noticed somewhat of a surging of normal power to loss of power, similar to when I lost the pump, but back then I had nothing for power, and the pump wasn’t producing any pressure. I’m getting 60 psi before/60 while I’m running. I then thought it was intermittently coming on and off due to a chitty oil pressure sensor as others have claimed have gone bad with these. I have a spare Holley in the glove box for that reason, and will go ahead and toss it in tonight, however I think the wiring is a bit different, and might just bridge across the sensor for reliability..
I was a bit miffed and sure wish I had a gauge up in the truck...this will be the next thing to do. My issue is I’m headed to the track and towing a 16k setup and do not have an option to get stranded 200 miles away from home and likely 40-50 away from any decent parts store. I had my plate full installing a motor and machining clutch baskets tonight/tomorrow before we left, and this is very ill timed. I thought I’d bounce off the symptoms off to you guys and see if you had any thoughts. Everybody swears by these efuel systems, but man my pump choice and wiring/sensor setup from SD may not have been right… I want this reliable, and am tired of fiddling with more crap in between oil changes than I should.
Here is what I know… quick rundown on my way to work when this all happened.
1. Healthy Injector feed pressure over 3000psi at WOT throttle with a healthy duty cycle on a t500
2. 60 psi at idle. I can monitor under the hood while driving though…. And that my biggest issue right now
3. Full tank of fuel, issue happened at a ¼ tank, but I have always run them down to E if I want, I’m pretty darn sure my shower head is just find but that is an option, however I will know going home with a full tank if that was truly the issue.
4. Engine oil level is where it needs to be.
5. Plenty in the reservoir
6. No boost leaks
7. Map is just as good as it ever has been…. Its fine, no noise in the voltage output
8. Tight tin nut
9. No oil in ICP
That all being said… I sure hope this doesn’t turn into another chitty pump. If so I am going to figure out what I can use that is more reliable, likely a stock SD pump, I am open to opinions from guys who have ran a pump and it ACTUALLY LLasts. the 044s are 230 from summit, and not garbage IMO, found in series or singles on most big hp track cars....
Anybody have a part number for the SD bosch pump... much cheaper than their 044 pump. Hopefully I can get one tonight or tomorrow from a parts store and not get raped...
I don't need all the other stuff that comes with the sd pump just the pump itself...
Stock SD pump WONT keep up!!!! Don't waste your time.
I have an electric oil pressure gauge in cab. Much cheaper than "fuel" and the sender is the same pn for oil/fuel lol
All right hopefully a parts store around here can get me one.
Genius on the gauge my friend...thank you. Are you running autometer? Have a part number for yours or a link?
One other thing, What are the fittings on either end? Metric?look to be 8/10mm ish? Only place I can get one quick is Summit..for twice the amazon cost...oh well...

I actually checked the acc section and the sender replacement is the same...

The gsl is available with barb fittings or SD quick disconnect.I did the SD type.
Not any clue what thread sadly
I know lots of guys have had good luck with the pump which is why I initially went with it. When it died I was away from home and loaded. Autozone was close by and they had a SD pump so I snagged it. So far I haven't had any issues and I have never been able to hear it and it has been on there for almost 3 years. I kinda feel like I may have just got a bum pump at first.
And one nice thing is that I can get a replacement pretty easily if it does crap out
I ended up getting your pump from summit on short notice. The one I got overnight end comes with 2 10mm oring ends. I will get the fittings tomorrow and have it ready to drop in just in case.
Once I get the 044 warranty replacement back I will keep it for the cuminapart lift pump and fuel system.
All that said after it sat in the parking lot with a full tank of fuel it didn't hiccup at all on the way home. I want to wish its just a shower head that broke off between fill ups and it was struggling at a quarter tank, but it's never that easy it seems. Maybe it's all it was. I have a bunch of running around to do before I leave so I guess we will see. I know I was pretty spur the moment on the spare pump but it was acting just like last time before the pump motor crapped out completely.
If it's not fuel, I'm curious what it could be... Truck ran like crap at idle at a stop light a couple times too when it was acting up. Not sure what that could be related to besides fuel considering the rest of the measured metrics seemed fine. Time will only tell and hopefully it was as simple as a shower head.
I sure hope this Walbro does the job, as I have spent more in fuel pumps in 5k than anything else on this truck...
So that's where we are at... Hopefully this new pump shows today....
