While tinkering with the HPOI formula, I'm thinking it's just best to call it the High Pressure Oil Index... so people don't see the word "inefficiency" in close proximity to the data from their beloved truck.
I see that FIPW dancing on the other side of the fence, but the ICP is holding in there - strong HPOP and no internal leaks. This is one of those rare cases where a long FIPW doesn't kill the ICP outright. The HPOI line is dancing across the 10 mark, but just barely. When one runs a "hot" tune or has an internal oil leak, I've seen the HPOI pop 90... so a hair over 10 is OK. I might change the formula to keep that HPOI under a different number - like 1 - without going a hair over in these instances.
But then again... going a hair over makes us look at the "why" of it, and we spot that high FIPW. However - this tune does not reach the category of "hot". I'd go into the why of it, but I see a tune provider's name in the tune and I don't want to openly discuss his tuning strategy. One of the data samples above looks like it's from a good acceleration tune.
While chasing higher boost - don't forget the "boost regulator" installed by Ford. Remove the red line from the wastegate actuator and cap the red line. Try your run after that.
I get 16-19 MPG, but by a large margin - my miles are on the highway.
...I run 295/70/18's which are a hair over 34" in diameter....
Unless you had your ABS system recalculated for the tire size, much of your "poor mileage" is a lying odometer. How are you supposed to know how far you've gone on a tank if your axle is turning slower/less than on stock tires?
Your data looks pretty good. Let's put a pin in that EBP analysis until the wastegate stops dumping boost.
Thanks for the welcome! Introduction time to those who don't visit the 7.3L forum:
Since I don't own an Ex - my knowledge will be somewhat limited with components not used on a P/U. My forte is the 7.3L... but almost everything I learned was from trying to figure out what I did wrong. Since I did everything wrong, my understanding of the engine has grown to be quite detailed.
What I'm saying is - I'm not a diesel mechanic by trade. Many aspects of the engine are familiar to me by way of similar components in the equipment I troubleshoot, calibrate, modify, and program on a daily basis. While I don't have delusions of grandeur by way of thinking I know best, I have learned a lot through trial and error - and share what I've gleaned from those lessons.
Sorry guys...I'm really on vacation and trying to trouble shoot and work on my truck while trying to see family etc..is damn near impossible.
GPS calculated speed is 72MPH while speedometer is 70MPH. So 72/70 = 1.029 rounded. 116miles x 1.029 = 169.785 for my re-calculated miles. Divide that by the 16.5 gallons I just put in to fill up and that is 10.29MPG. Now most of that was city driving and I have a lot of WOT runs just messing with torque pro..which the checkmark on auto log was not checked!! Now I just threw some numbers out there, I did not write my numbers down this afternoon cause I was in a damn rush, but they should be pretty close off the top of my head.
Thanks to everyone for comments suggestions, and most of all your help. It looks like for this trip I am going to have to eat it and when I get back to Colorado I will tackle it again. Heading out in the AM!! Ready to get out of this sauna!
