Good info. I just returned from the Eastern Sierras and had tow/haul, cc and engine braking on a 7% 12 mile decline. The cc was set at 60 mph and I never had a problem. I had an app. 15k 31' 5er behind me. I wonder if that 5 mph diff. made the diff?
i do not know, but i will take it off cc when i start my descent. maybe the 5 mph is the difference but i do not want to take a chance unless i am on the road alone. my pickup is a dually cc, 4wd, with 373 gears and am pulling a 37 foot 5er weighing in at about 16-17k.
I had a similar experience three days ago after descending a relatively short 7% grade in my 2011 6.7L. Towing a 13,000 lb 5th wheel. In TH with CC on and set for 60 mph. Got down to 3rd gear and about 3500 rpm. Held at 64 mph. Never touched the brakes. At the bottom of the hill engine briefly went into overspeed. Then the wrench came on followed by reduced power message. Truck began to slow and would not respond to throttle. Barely able to pull onto shoulder with 5th wheel. Engine died. I was in Northern Ontario with no cell phone signal! After reading the manual and waiting about twenty minutes decided to start the engine. All messages cleared but CEL on. Drove about thirty miles to campground and shut off engine. When restarted CEL was off. Checked codes with scanner and only code was P0219 - Engine overspeed. Whew!
At what RPM is it thinking it is in an overspeed condition?
My guess would be between 3500 and 4000. Had mine at 3500 briefly by accident (had upper gears locked out during hard acceleration) the engine was hesitating or de-powering so to speak on it's own, looked down at the guages and 4-6 was locked out @ 3500rpm.
