My daughter drives a 92 F150 5.0L. A few days ago she came home and stated that her truck wouldn't go while pressing the gas from a stop. She said that she had the gas pedal all the way down. She then said after about 10 seconds it just took off. It has done this twice over the past few days. She also stated that she was driving down the road about 40-50 and the truck started acting like it was loosing fuel and shaking, but then quit and started running o.k. Of course, it's intermittent and hasn't done it since. I was wondering if the fuel filter might need to be changed, but it seemed odd to me that it would have these kind of symptoms. Also, this truck has 2 tanks, but I only see one fuel filter. Is there only 1 fuel filter?
Take it to a store that does it for free, or somehow try to read the codes from the computer and see if there are any. Especially the memory codes. The check engine light may have come on when it was messing up, and she did not notice it, but it will be in the memory code section.
This is an intermittent problem which is going to be hard to trace. Let's see if the engine computer saw something when it happened.
Yea, theres only 1 fuel filter (which is a pain to take off lol). The symptoms are odd, though, for it to be the fuel filter... .the whole 'pressing the gas down' makes me think that the Throttle position sensor could be going bad, but like frankil suggested, try to get the codes.
Sounds good. I was also wondering if it might be a fuel pump going bad. She stated that it's only happened twice and both times it was on the front tank. May just be a coincedence. I'll pull the codes this weekend.
I can't rule it out, but I doubt it's the fuel pump itself, unless there is a bad ground or broken wire somewhere. When fuel pumps die, they usually die slowly... like over months.
