I couldn't find the thread for people who are new to the forum. So I thought I was start one I just recently bought A 2003 F2 50 diesel 6.0l
It came from Florida has no rust
122k
For now just looking around the forms I see the 6.0 can have some issues
Let me know what you think.. 13k$
Had to replace sway bar links and shocks alignment
I would suggest buying an obdII gauge of some sort, Scan Gauge II, Forescan, Torque App, or Dashboss. Short trips are bad, so get it to full temp each drive cycle, drive it like you stole it from time to time to exercise the turbo and enjoy it!!
If you have any issues post here first because there are a ton of great people with a lot of knowledge to help out...
Welcome. Yes these trucks can be problematic.
First thing is get you something to read codes and live data. There are a number of posts with great info.
Second spend some time reading in the tech folder, more info on these trucks than you really want to know.
The turbo was just replaced 500 miles ago supossivly only problem in 10 years ...
I have obdII reader that resets codes too thanks I try to get it up to temp and hammer the peddle from time to time
Can anyone just tell me a few things that I should really keep an eye out for otherwise I'm going to just drive the crap out of it.

This is the purpose of the gauges. Charging system, FICM, oil temp, coolant temps, HPO system, etc should be monitored. In many cases you can identify a potential issue before a failure occurs.
Is there a thread for preventative matinence and not something wrong tranny wise?
I was wondering because:
At my dealer they want
270$ for fluid flush
310$ for fluid and filter change out
I'm not sure if it was ever done
It shifts good I think so I just want to keep it that way
My question is for that price is it worth doing yourself?
Is it worth doing at all at 122k not knowing if done for at least 80k miles?
Then my other question is which one should I do flush or change out?
As others said--you have to have something to monitor live data to head things off. Second is maintenance, maintenance, maintenance. If you don't do the maintenance it will cost you way more $$$ in the long run. If you do the maintenance and monitor vitals you could save big $$$.
You can change the trans fluid yourself and save $200+. I wouldn't flush it, just drain and refill, and there is a transmission filter behind the front bumper, passenger side inside a metel canister. (strongly advise using an impact wrench for removal)
It's a good idea to change ALL fluids (differentials, transmission, engine oil, coolant, transfer case if you have 4x4, etc) on a newly acquired used vehicle. That way you know when it's been done, and you also get familiar with the truck in the process.
Where I live there are 15 Ford dealerships within a 100 mile radius none of them has a hot flush machine that Ford factory recomends useing.
Most of us drain and change the fluid that comes out, some will stay in the tranny.
The filter in the tranny is not useually changed in your case you may want to. Depends on the condition of the fluid how it looks a feels. Do change the filter in the little canister mounted on the driverside frame rail if it has one.
Note that puppy may not want to come off and the mount is flimsey. A couple of pops with an impact will useually jar it loose and the you can unthread by hand. Hold backup with something to keep the mount bracket from bending or tearing plum off.
It is kind of a toilet paper roll type filter which in a pink can be used as a replacement filter. Low pressure just filters the oil from tranny to tranny oil cooler in the radiator.
Mottocraft aft is 40$ per 5 quarts (Amazon price) and I would need 20 gals or 5x40 to completely change it out?
Isn't that what dealer will do? So I'd be saving 150$
