Help - someone mechaically smart

So I bought a 2001 ford escape v6 in february. It would occasionally make a grinding noise and the rpms would.jump around.

Today while I was driving it. Idk what happened. I got to a stop sign and I noticed it was running loud, the Rpms were high and I didn't need to even hit the acceleration to pull out from the stop sign. It's like the accelerator was stuck and I didn't have to use the accelerator the whole time I was driving it til I got it to the store. It's like the cruise control was on but I never even used it or turned it on. When I got the truck into a parking spot and put it in park the RPMD shot up to 6000. When I left the store th e acceleration was the same in didn't use the gas pedal. Much it kinda worked itself out while I was driving it.

It's not leaking any fluids. And it doesn't feel like it's slipping. Any idea of what it could be?

There was a recall about the accelerator pedal cable binding on the plastic engine cover. Trace the cable from the firewall to the throttle body and look for binding. Or take it to your local shop/dealer for inspection.
Good Luck

Yea I read about the recall. I wasn't sure if it was transmission, throttle body, accelerator.

Seriously? Your vehicle is running the way you describe and you're still driving it? Get it TOWED either to a dealer or a good mechanic and have it looked at before it destroys itself or you cause a serious accident.

Pull the plastic coverage off the engine . Check the throttle linkage for binding or sticking .

With all due respect

with all due respect, the vehicle did it 1 time in the whole time I owned it. I simply came here asking for what other people might think it is so I can reseach it based on their answers and see so I can have it checked out.

Ty

[B]Thank you, we did check the throttle area and checked fo any cables getting stuck or sticking nothing appears to be the problem there. Based off how it acted, I have suspicion of it being the brake booster. It has a garage appointment to have that checked out. Based off what I read. Brake booster can cause the engine to act up as well.[B]

You would probably get more relevant answers in the Escape forum, the garage and workshop is for discussing shop tools and such rather than truck tech.
