Looks like the input shaft is not all the way in, pull it out and check to see if its in backwards. You shouldn't be able to see the machined area on the input shaft.

Maybe this is why you were having problems during the install, it may even be the cause of the crank bearing failure.

Its not. I have. Direction correct. No I shouldn't.

Oh without a doubt & I'm 100% sure of the latter.

Had nothing to compare it to so I didn't notice.

I have basic facts/no drama email in to patc with pics & to my builder/tech. He takes tec support calls at 4:30.

Spoke to my builder. I have 14 inch input shaft that equates to the 94 trans I have, not the 13-5/8 shaft that goes with the upgraded 95-97 steel 4- pinion planet that was installed. (and test dyno'ed with) He doesn't know how it got changed, but insists it left his work station w/correct one & I believe him.

Will be making road trip Sat AM. He'll open, inspect, replace shaft & replace any bearing/bushings that might be needed. All on his own time & no charge.

PATC under new ownership, so this is a reasonable solution to a fairly untenable situation and I can at least have a resolution.

Moral:

Mock up trans with TC/Flex/block plate & check for clearance before even going under the truck.

When/after you mate bellhousing to block, you need to be able to "pull the TC to the flex plate" with TC nuts on the studs. There has to be some fore/aft movement of the TC with the bell housing bolts snug before tightening down nuts.

Well, no. But he must have said "It makes no sense..." about 5 times & is pretty sincere in his embarrassment.

Nice diagrams, look to be 100% on the mark as described. Thanks.

Road trip completed Sat. My builder knocked out a complete inspection that revealed no wear & showed me everything down to the OD planet. He could have sent me just the shaft, but I enjoyed the visit as he worked & feel a lot more certain about the transmission.

Still it could grenade tomorrow, who knows?

Bottom pic is new measurement. 1-1/16, bell face to base of torque converter stud.
