I'm in the process of re-installing a rebuilt and upgraded E4OD in my 1997 F-250 7.3. I thought I had the new billet converter well seated on the trans input shaft when I bolted it all back together.
However, once everything was in place I couldn't spin the flex plate. I didn't try to start the truck, knowing something was binding. I pulled it back apart, and once the trans was loose the flex plate spun again.
First, what's the trick to getting a tight converter properly located on the input shaft? And has anyone had this experience and broken anything in the trans ( I did not bump the starter )? I hope I didn't damage anything internally.
And should I be able to turn the outer splines of the trans input shaft? I can turn the inner splines.
I utilized the trans out condition to replace my ups with coated Riffraff ups and I managed to get my stock DP out in one piece ( it was a personal challenge of pain and persistence- plus I didn't like the idea of a reciprocating blade so close to the firewall ).
Thanks!

Did you spin the converter while pushing in lightly? Usually you will feel it seat, and maybe even hear a thud as it seats. I doubt you have messed anything up at this point because you didn't start it up.
Agreed. Pull pump and verify you did not break it. I have seen this many times over the years. Last thing you want to do is install it all and it not move due to a broken front pump.
I mounted the original torque convertor onto the input shaft of the new trans- it goes into place fairly easily with some jiggling and twisting, and once in place the assembly spins nicely with no odd sounds. I think I got lucky and didn't damage anything, but I'll be damned if I can get the new billet converter to slip into place. I wrestled with it for an hour and gave up, so I may try pulling my old trans' front pump and input shaft out and test-fit them into my new converter to see if they will bottom out correctly. But it'll have to wait until Saturday until I can get to it. So slow going......
