The 5100's made a huge improvement on my F250. On my current F350 dually I tried to save a buck and bought the 4800's thinking they are still bilstein shocks right?. I did not notice the same improvement. Either the shocks I replaced were not that bad or the 4800's are not that good. Or maybe the difference is because its a dually.
My impression is that the 4800s are a little softer. I know the 5100s on my truck have yet to achieve anything resembling a 'break-in' state after 40k miles. They remain a little too stiff for my taste.
I have 5100 on the 2009 V10. I am still running the ford shock on the 6.7. 3 of the 4 ford shocks are gone. I was think of getting a set for the 6.7.
I like the shockwarehouse , I can get a set for 301 dollars.
It a good shock. Like it was said before, shocks do make the truck ride like a car. For that you need a Honda ridgeline
Am I missing something here? I installed these on my 2011 F350 and it improved the ride a little but this truck can still knock the fillings out of your head. Was disappointed that the rubber mounts that came with the front shocks were kinda generic and found that the shock shaft hit the steel top mount if you were not careful. Think that I could have bought a cheaper shock and got the same ride. Truck has snow plow option and is sprung heavy but figured the shocks were valved for this. Truck handled OK around a corner, the shocks did not improve that. Like I said, I don't get what all the fuss is about.
Not exactly sure what you mean by the shock shaft hitting the top steel mount.
Sounds like something is not right on your setup. I had Bilstein on my 6.0 and have them on my current f350 and they are great - they are valved perfectly for this truck. They made a huge difference the minute they were installed - that was the first thing installed on my truck the day I got it. I also have the snow plow package and the shocks work great with the stiffer setup.
The function of a shock is not to help the truck around the corner. That is what a sway bar is supposed to do. The shock is only supposed to dampen the irregularities in the road while the sway bar/springs keeps the suspension perpendicular to the road.
