Cargo hatch not opening

so friends were telling me the cables probably snapped. I couldn't open it from the outside so I removed the 2 rear door panel covers and all the trim around the cargo window. By sitting on the rear cargo area I was able to lower the lock to eye level. Cable looked OK and I was able to reach the rear latch while still having eyes on the lock. The whole cable was moving...a closer inspection with a flashlight revealed that the outer part of the cable had a notch around the end piece where the wire cable came out. There was also a C-shaped part on both sides of the lock. I pushed the notched outside part of the cable into the metal holder. With a bit of pushing it locked into place. Now the outside of the cable was held in place as the latch was lifted, allowing the inner wire cable to move and the locks opened again. I think 13 years of slamming the hatch finally knocked the boogers out. But at least it wasn't expensive so I can't complain.

You got lucky, usually the rubber ring stop breaks off. There's a company on eBay that sells the repair kit for $15.
