I have parts coming from various sources to retrofit my '74 with the locking hood latch and cable setup. However, having never seen the installation, I am wondering how the cable "T" handle and cable were factory-mounted and -routed to the latch?!? I'm sure that at least one of you has this important security item on your truck to look over and give some insights? ;-)
Thanks, Steve
The handle mounts under the dash left of the steering wheel at the bottom of the dash. the cable goes thru the firewall to the left of the rad to the front of the truck. The cable ends inside a box that has the pull lever in it and the box is held on by 1 screw and makes it so that the cable can't be pulled from the outside.
The handles are either locking or non-locking, the non-locking is plastic and the locking is metal.
Pleez oh PLEEZ tell me where your ~locking~ cable kit came from. I would feel so much better if I could lock my '74 up, too. He's an F100; name is Harrison. Good luck with your install job - I bet it'll be swift.
Need a company name & number, if you would, please - I'll order it tonite...
Thanks KJ! That's kind of what I figured, but wanted to be sure before removing a piece of firewall! Did they do any special routing along the side of the fender liner?
Laptopgeek, hope you are sitting down when you look these up. Outrageously expensive, but just don't seem to find parts trucks laying around in my part of the country. They're all still on the road, being Fords and all! I found that www.ford-obsolete-parts.com has both the latch and the cable assembly, look up E7UZ-16700-A $71.95 (latch) and D5DZ-16914-A $148.95 (cable) and D8TZ-16978-A $23.95 (cylinder). LMC Truck at 1-800-222-5664 has the locking cable only: 40-3870 $129.95, and lock cylinder 47-0689 $24.95, and their shipping rates are monstrous. And finally, Recks and Relics at ww4.choice.net/~truck had the latch for $65, no cable. And Dennis Carpenter had neither! So, get out your check-book, and good luck!
Ack!!! I think I'll just tie up old Moe (my 240 pound Rotweiller) to the front bumper!! Jeez....I knew Fords were great, but they CHARGE for it to!..Thanks for the info --I'll print this and maybe next year I can buy it.
Regards..

This guy found one from AudioVox, it looks good but I've never been able to find it on AudioVox's web site. It's a locking type and probably stops at the cable, so you'd still have to find/make the latch part.
I have just put that lock in made by AudioVOX. I bought it from JCWhitney. Runs about 40 bucks, took me about 2 hours to put in! Works great. I don't remember the part number, but it mentions hood lock for cars, trucks and vans. Hope this helps!
