So in the beginning of this year I had been having cold running issues (florida weather cold-sub 60 degrees) it would run rough til it warmed up then run fine.
I took it to a local shop who did a contribution test-it passed. Then he shut off each cylinder individually at idle-passed. And then turned each cylinder off at 1500 rpm-and #8 made very little difference. He said #8 Is on its way out.
Now that its hot as hell outside, its running okay again.
Well the other day I found a local guy who repairs these trucks from home and works at international.
I asked him how much to replace my oil cooler (been clogged up for a while now) and to replace that injector.
Well he came by and did a buzz on my truck cold (80+ out that day)
All cylinders clicked except for #7 and 8. He said those two need replaced. No contribution test some just the buzz test.
I started the truck up for less then 30 seconds and asked if he could test again. They all clicked.
I do have a slight shudder at 1200 or so. But not terrible.
So-is the cold buzz test really accurate in saying I need two injectors?
Also-where can I find an oem oil cooler core for under $300?!
I'm hoping to have him do my truck as soon as I get the parts in to do it.
You might try polishing your spool valves first. Sometimes that helps for a long time.
Well I'm paying him to do it so I'd need a "permeant" fix so i dont have to pay him to do it twice. And he can get the injectors pretty cheap. Its just i have to pay the labor for him to get under each valve cover because 7 and 8 are opposite sides.
FWIW my mechanic (certified Ford) won't replace 1 injector on either side. When he done mine a few weeks ago and found out I had bad injectors on each side we went ahead and bit the bullet and replaced all 8 at once. Made a huge difference in the way my truck runs though!!

Do you know what your fuel psi is running? Losing injectors 7&8 is a common result of low psi. What injectors is he planning on installing?

I asked the same-he said they're failing on the electrical side so most likely not a fuel pressure issue.
I just picked up the truck tonight from him. Looks like he did a good job at a good price, my wallet still hurts a little but its well worth it.
Definitely runs smoother with more power.
He put in reman international injectors from aliant I believe.
Also with my oil cooler, My deltas were vast ways apart. Ect 188-192. Eot would shoot up to 230+ If I let it on the highway.
I only drove it 15 miles home going 60+ the whole way but eot only got to 198 at the max. And I was giving it a run through lol.
Plus I have an ipr coolant filter ran off the oil cooler which probably is making my delta slightly more apart.
I'm very happy with the results so far! Hopefully my cooler stays clog free for a long time.
