So I have a 06 350 and I'm gettin clunkin from drive to reverse and now with drive too, I know my rear diff is on it's last days but I am Woundering if that could cause the clunking and now my truck around 90km shakes likes crazy and same thing wana know if that's the diff.
And if I was to fix diff myself would it not just be easier for me to just swap axles if I wanted to be cheap??
I would check your carrier bearing for the vibration, and grease the slip joint with Motorcraft PTFE grease to address the clunk.
I second the slip joint. BTW the Ford Motorcraft PTFE grease will look and feel
thin but works the best. Clean the old stuff out and apply the new to the joint
per the instructions and that should solve any slip joint clunk.

Yes, you can pick it up at the dealership, but I think I also saw it on Amazon. I don't know what all the applications are for the PTFE grease, but I don't think ball joints would be one of them.
It comes in a small sqeaze tube, not in a grease gun type of tube...

Motorcraft part # XG-8. Got it from my local dealer for less than $10.

gotcha. ive been using the red n tacky grease that i use on all my timken bearings at work. seems to work fine.
will get PTFE grease for that though. i think i have a small clunk also from a dead stop.
The PTFE is Teflon based and should only be used on the slip
joint. You will find that it seems too thin for what it does. But
it works and the clunking will go away. Thick grease is one of
what causes it to clunk. Does not let things slide the way they should.
