Bad injector or injectors?

I need a little advice here.
I have a Scurge with 120000 miles on it. When it is started while cold, it starts right up but has miss. If i attempt to drive it, it will shutter a bit. That is until it has been running a few min. Then everything is fine. (cooler weather has made me think of all of this again). It has an EGR delete and I use a SCT tune (because of the EGR delete) with a 25 HP gain, no mega power tunes.
Anyway, I have no codes, I have tried Hot Shots, re-soldered the the FICM, both seemed to help a little, but not really. The other day I test drove an 06 F350 and realized that it was always much smother and started right up.
Questions,
Does anyone think it could be an Injector, even though I have no codes?
And
If so, how do I determine which injector(s) before I get into it?

Injector replacement does not seem to difficult, but due to the cost of injectors, I was hoping to only replace the bad one(s).

and last but not least, where is a good place to get injectors? (and an Oil cooler, I thought that while it was down, I would do that also.)

Thanks!

I know that there are buzz tests and contribution tests that may help you find the bad injector/s. I'm not sure what tools you need to do that, but I think that Auto Enginuity can do those.

I just ordered a set of injectors from shopinjectors.com. Their price was great, I'll let you know about the quality in a couple of months.

the only way to find a bad injector is to have the ford module thingy. i dont remember what its called but you can have your local ford dealer test it and find the weak one. i would try some rev-x first. its much better than hot shot and i know because i used both. hotshot didnt do anything for me so i really didnt want to spend the money on rev-x and get the same results. but after reading nothing but good reviews on it i bought some and within 15 mins i could notice a change in the truck. the next morning i started it up and drove off without warm up and not one miss out of it at all! its truely a great product

Well, I just logged into rev-x and ordered 8 oz.
I would be thrilled if it works! I do have doubts....................
it is a cheap fix if it works!
Thanks for the advice.

Now then.............................
What all does this "Auto Enginuity" do?

Ford also recommends moving to the lightest weight of oil possible. Several guys use synthetic 5w-40 Rotella T6 with good results. Wally World has it for about $21 per gallon. Eventually you will have to replace the injector(s), but this may hold it off for a while.

AE is a software package that runs on a laptop. You need to be familiar with the parameters of a 6.0 for it to be useful. It is a great tool, but it's not going to be plug and play if you don't know what you are looking for. I think it's about $350 from Riff Raff Diesel. You can also run it down to the dealer and get them to do the diags for you for about $85 - $100 if you don't think you'll be using AE long term.

And, let me add - there are low tech ways to find a missing injector when cold. You can use a laser temperature gun to measure the temp of the exhaust manifold at each port. The port(s) with a large temp differential are the offending injectors.

That makes perfect sense!
Shoot the manifold at start up and look for low temps!

Thanks, I will be doing that for sure! And then I will be able to see if the Rev-x makes a diff on those cylinders.

(My light just went on!)

YZ400F i just replaced one and at first had no codes but later they came the codes i mean. But what i also did was unplug the said injector to see if there was any diff . so maybe start unplugging them to see if it makes a diff. JMHO

yea unplugging wont help you in this situation. also if you unplug them it might actually give the computer a reason to throw a code. i know you have your doubts but i am really thinkin the rev-x is going to really help out!

It is on the way, and if 72.00 fixes me up, I will be very grateful!
(not to mention that all I do is add it to an oil change.)

I forgot to state that I do have an Edge Insight monitor on the truck. Does it have any ability to monitor any injector PIDs?

not that i know of. i was lookin at that when i had a stiction issue as well and couldnt find anything. and yea go to 5w-40 oil and some rev-x and you will be greatly surprised. also it doesnt have to be added in every oil change id only do it if you have stiction at the time

AutoEnginuty with the Ford Enhanced bundle. The best money I've ever spent on my truck.

AE is mostly the software, but you have to use one of their OBD-II adapters (comes with the program) to pull all DTC, and doing the tests...including contribution/balance. I've got one at the house, and it's amazing what you can do with it. I seriously doubt you'll find a better price than what RiffRaff has 'em for ($360 w/Free shipping) and that's the Ford Enhanced bundle (you've got to get that for the PSD). Some dealers are charging $250 just to pull the codes on a truck, they'll "refund the charge" if they end up doing the service work.

Personally, I'd check to see if there is a fellow FTE member near you by checking the state chapter for where you live. Might be someone 2 miles down the road that not only has an AE, but knows how to help you figure out what your cold start issue is.
