Need a little advice here, the truck in my signature has a small surge when running on the road at between 35 & 50 (approx.) mph. Pulled codes today and got 63, 46, and 34. Checked TPS and got .745V at closed throttle and 4.495v at WOT, had smooth progression from closed to open. Checked EVP and it was not working at all, pin moves or EGR valve but EVP resistance does not change. Hmm bad EVP, next victim, TAB, checked it and it appears to be good, had some leakage but how much leakage is ok? The question I have is , could EVP be causing these other codes, particularly the TPS. Tested per Old Fuel Injection and Haynes. Sorry for the lengthy post but figured better to put out all the details rather than have you guys have to fish for the necessary info. Has E4od trans 3.55 gears. Oh and KOEO was 11 11
I know the EVP will cause the surge you are experiencing, so replace that first and go from there. My Bronco 302 used to go thru an EVP sensor about every 2 years or so.
Your truck is a 1993 model year, Ford started to transition from two digit codes to three digit in 1991. Since your truck is in the transition period you could have either. Since your Code 63 turned out to be false I HIGHLY suspect the codes you got are 634, 634 (Transmission Manual Lever Position Sensor circuit out of self test.) which also tells me you have an E4OD transmission if my theory is correct.
If the EGR valve is moving and the EVP output never changes then most likely you have a bad EVP. You can remove it then test it by moving the plunger by hand to verify.
I still have my suspicions those codes are three digit.
So Codes 63,46,34 are showing up in which tests? You already stated KOEO was System Pass (Code 11). That would imply Codes 63,46,34 are from stored (Continuous Memory aka CM). If the latter, you need to clear the codes then drive the truck again for a few cycles to see if thy return.
FWIW..my Ford Service Manual shows Code 46 as a KOER only code. Something is amiss here.
I'm a dummy, they are 3 digit codes, was operating on premise they were 2 digit, couldn't figure out extra flashes. KOEO is 111, CM is 634 sure glad you guys are here to keep me straight. With that straightened out, what does 634 mean? MLPS out of adjustment? will clear codes and try again after driving for a couple days.
I would not think it is out of adjustment as that is when you run into problems with the starting and back up lamp circuits.
So if it cranks and the backup lamps work OK and you have not adjusted it then adjustment should be OK.
It is saying you may have a bad sensor or a bad plug for it or an open in the wiring to it.
I would start by replacing the sensor.
Update, cleaned connector and adjusted MLPS cleaning made no difference, 634 still showed up, but adjustment did the trick, it was off the thickness of the line, what a tiny difference. Good to go thanks to rla2005 and subford.
