I just pulled the codes on my 93 F250 4x4 with a 5.8 and i got codes 33,45 and 42. I have just recently went for an e-test and i failed and failed because my egr wouldent open. Where should i start looking? thanks guys. Chris
A 1993 should give you three digit codes, not two. Try reading them again with that in mind, or we can just assume that the codes are 334 and 542.
334 is DPFE or EVP circuit above the closed limit of 0.67 volts, and 542 is fuel pump circuit failure.
Your EVP (EGR valve position) sensor is probably shot. There is a procedure in the Haynes manual to test it, I would try that. Or, if you're in a hurry, just replace it. It's the white plastic doo-dad on top of the EGR valve.
