tire wear

My dually keeps wearing out one of the inside tires, and the other is wearing faster than the outside wheels. A tire shop guy said this was not unusual with duallys. Anyone else have this problem? If it is a problem, what could be causing it?

I have seen uneven wear, but usually it is the outside tire wearing faster. Most of the time it is air pressure issues.

not air pressure. It's happened with three different tires.

I would start rotating the tires every oil change.

I think I've come to the same conclusion, and that's a bunch of work. It's the inside wheels, so all four back tires have to come off.

Just worried that it might be a bent axle or something else major and wondered whether anyone else had this problem, or better yet, if everyone did.

Prolly a lot of work/expense to replace an axle.

Put it up in the air and put it in drive see if its wobbling. The drives should wear together.

Definitely got something wrong. Coming back from Indiana last week, started getting a lot of vibration. Replaced a tire on the truck, then one on the trailer. While they were doing the trailer, I unhooked and drove the truck and the vibe seemed to have gone. Hooked back up and new tire did nothing, still vibrates. Still, figured it was in the trailer.

Made it home and swapped trailers, it still vibrates. Unhooked at first pick-up point, short test drive, no vibrate. Replaced a tire on that trailer, LOL, still vibrates.

So, made it home again now, and will be giving the truck an extended test drive with no trailer. And if I can borrow a neighbor's truck, I'll see if my trailers vibrate when it pulls it.

That tells me its not liking being loaded. Inspect the drive shaft carrier bearing (if you have that set up)? A worn carrier bearing or the rubber integral mount could be shot. That will allow the drive shaft to move off center and wobble. It could be a ujoint. Pull the shaft(s) and feel them for smooth operation and integrity. Lastly Pull the dif cover and have a look at things including back lash. My money is on the drive shaft(s)

Thank you, sir. All good ideas that I'll look at as soon as we get past the current deluge coming down in Houston.

However, I did have the tires rotated yesterday and replaced the other inside rear tire (have now replaced both insides), and it fixed all the vibration. While the rear end was off the ground, I spun each rear set by hand and neither showed any signs of wobble.

So, I'm thinking that means I don't have bent axles/housing or anything else that could be producing the wobble - it was purely a bad tire issue. But, that still leaves the issue of what's making those inside tires go bad.
