Ever think of just pulling aside and waving the guy on? Sure, tailgating is stupid. Not to mention dangerous. But why not let the person pass? How do you know they don't have a legitimate reason for trying to get around you? And doesn't antagonizing a tailgater just add to the danger?

Antagonizing people is sometimes worse than what they did.

In the Buick, I still go with the flashing yellow hazard lights when people tailgate me.

I pull over in the truck & let them go away from me.

Plus, if and when we meet at the next traffic light, I get vocal about

"You tailgate, speed, & weave through traffic while I observe the driving Rules & Laws,
yet we still meet at a red light,I wonder why that is.......... hmmmm"?

haha that is good Dennis.

The funny thing is...when I am in a good mood and I let them pass they go the same speed they were going behind me but just in front of me!! Usually slower and then I start thinking of passing them.

I've determined 90% of people are just jerks. And I think out of the 10% that are nice...I don't get to encounter them in real life very often ;/

My trucks lifted and anyone real close behind or along side is hard to see. It makes sence that when my tires are as tall as your eybrows, you should give me some space. Someone needs to make a bumper sticker that reads "If I need to brake, You're gonna be eating this steel bumper!" I had a guy in a Grand Prix riding my tail when I was doing 10 over. He finaly passed me doing 75+ in a 55 and I just prayed that there was a county boy around the corner with his radar gun.

I almost had some one tell me how my new class 3 hitch on my ranger felt. I was cruising up Main street and this guy in a little car was riding my butt. Well dont ya know it this black dude walks out in front of me. So I hit the brakes, the look on the guys face was priceless as hes laying on the horn at me, and I could just about see his wipers over my tailgate in my rearview mirror he was so close and dont ya know he still rode my butt!!! That ticked me off! And on top of it he had no were to go even if I did pull over cause it was in the center of town! Now that I have a real hitch I'll get a big old pintel hook from work and throw that in there, some one wants to tail gate then I'll let em wrap themselve around that then I'll pull em around town!

Some people are just to stupid to relize what there doing wrong and those are the ones that I feel need a wake up call. If some one is really trying to get around you let em go, but if they need a wake up call I say give it to em breifly.

Heres a situation when i would tailgat someone:

I'm driving in the fast lane goin about 72 in a 65, and someone in the right lane pulls out into the left lane goin 55, and they dont even attempt to accellerate to match my speed.
This really really makes me mad.

Another situation that makes me mad:
When I'm driving in the fast lane going 10-15 over the limit, and someone is riding my @ss.
Theres this girl that drives a little Shibby Cavelier that is a CRAZY driver. One day, it was raining very hard. There is a lot of traffic on the road. I'm in the middle of a long line of cars trying to exit. Were all goin about 55 in a 65 cuz of the weather. The girl in the shibby is a few cars back in the line. She pulls out to the left shoulder of the exit ramp, almost hits the exit sign, and passes three cars, and winds up behind me. She immediatly starts to tailgate me, and flash her highbeams at me. So, as pissed as I am, I slam on the brakes. I slow down to about 20 mph. She swerves off the road to avoid hitting me.

Stuff like this really makes me mad.

Well, I see some of you drive in my area...

Traffic is a living, breathing animal and should be treated as such. When anyone impacts it to such a degree that it slows down or comes to a halt, they shouldn't be in 'it'.

If everyone had one goal each time they took to the road and that was to accomplish the trip safely and impact traffic as little as possible it would be a nicer drive for all.

Also, one thing some people fail to remember is that the little black and white signs that clearly state "Slower Traffic Keep Right" are regulatory. If they are failing to drive w/ traffic and just chilin in the left lane, talking on their phone, etc., they are the problem as much as the elderly guy weaving in the right lane 15 below the speed limit.

I used to mess with tailgaiters a bit.. slowing down, speeding up.. not letting them pass, etc. I am just as in the wrong as they are for tailgaiting me. I think it's stupid to mess with the other driver. Yes, he's a moron. Yes, he's probably some guy rushing to get to the home depot because he's ticked off he forgot to pick up the right size drain pipe. I pull over and let him go. If he wants to go 65 in a 40 and get nailed by a cop... here's the road, pal.. the gas pedal is on the right... go for it. I'll just chuckle to myself when I see him pulled over.
