I hate the guys in the rice bombs that want to "draft". I drive an E150 and run 75 on the freeway. I always get some joker trying to eat my bumper so I just slow down to 65...... It quite funny to see the looks on their faces when they try to go around and I open the old girl up.

This is the ultimate!!!
Heheheheh...

I have an electronic brake controler for my trailer braking system. Well, it has this slider switch on the module that actuates the trailer brakes manually. But even without a trailer, it still makes the brake lights go on.

So here goes: I push the button to make it look like I'm braking, but at the same time I floor it momentarily. They back off thinking I'm braking, then they get pissed off when they realize I'm speeding away and they usually also speed up quickly, meanwhile I'm already slowing down again and they're coming up quick. I've seen a lot people scared chitless in the rearview.

But hey, I have no sympathy for those people who feel it necessary to ride within a couple feet of my bumper. I don't see how they would even see a traffic light over my cab or other traffic around me...talk about no situational awareness.

Most of the time I don't have this problem because I usually go my allotted 3-5 miles over the speed limit, but if I do have a problem, I too usually tap the brakes just to get the point across....if that still doesn't work, next light I stop at, I throw it in reverse and back up a little...you know, to most little cars that cause problems a big ole F250 Crew Cab backing up scares them enough to cause them to quit or change lanes at the first opportunity!

Dang, Baja Daze beat me to the punch. I was about to mention the trailer brake controller if the truck is so equipped. My dad had one in his Silverado. I loved using it on tailgater's when I hit the button and opened up the throttle plates at the same time. Makes them think twice about doin it again.

I hate when people tailgate. In my ranger I will pull over and let them pass cause I dont want anything to happen to it but my f-150 has 3/4 ton leaf springs with the shocks ordered for a 1 ton so it sits quit a bit higher, if they get agressive ill step on the brakes but i say if they hit me all well I wont feel a thing! If anything they'll be paying to put a new bed on! I love old full size trucks!

Muchtomydelight-"even if you pull out in front of them as long as you are in the right lane" - Glad to see you are into screwing people over. Brilliant ideas guys- Slam on your brakes and kill someone. But hey, think of it this way, that person will never tailgate you again.

I just take my foot of the gas and slow down as much as I can before they get an opportunity to get around me. I also match their weave pattern so they can see around me. After they pass I'll leave them alone, unless they were flashing their high beams at me, that really ticks me off. If they did that then I chase them for a little ways with my extremely bright PIAA Fog lights on. Not the best answer, but it's satisfiying. Particularly annoying drivers earn a call to truckers up ahead on my trusty CB.

Ricers

I usually let-off the gas & drop-down a gear at the same time. I figure this makes them think that my brake lights don't work, so they back way-off (well at least the two-second rule distance). I usually don't speed-up if someone tries to pass me unless I am towing my 5th-wheel; I feel it is best to at least give them a chance.

What I hate is when I am doing 15 mph over the speed limit and they ride my tail.
If I am blowing by the rest of traffic like they are standing still, and you happen to be behind me and want to go faster, you're screwed. Sorry. It's more dangerous for me to get over at that point, and if you think you can get around me on the right, try it. You won't be able to.
I don't hit the brakes, because getting rear ended at 85 mph will cause you to lose control and.........
If I am in a delivery truck and I can't do at least 10 over, I stay in the right lane.
I NEVER tailgate. Ever. And if I am in a car with somebody who does, I wont hesitate to express my discomfort. It's the most irresponsible, stupid and dangerous driving habit you can have, and I have zero patience for it.
If I didn't drive a company car, I would mount headlights on the rear bumper, to turn on when I get tailgated at night. See how they like it.

All depends on how aggressive the tailgater is.

Normally I try to keep with the flow of traffic. That is the most important thing even above following the speed limit. If you are not going with the flow of traffic in your lane move right. If I get "politely" tail gated I will try to move over or speed up at my earliest opportunity. If I am unable to move then the tailgater just gets a good look at my rear.

If it is a "rude" tailgater I may tap my brakes but not enough to slow down. If they persist I may slow down, but like I said I always try to get out of the way. I prefer to have some speeder running interference for me since I habitually run maybe 5mph over on the freeway anyway.

It is unsafe to slam on your brakes. I worked with a guy who did this to some guy in a truck. My co worker did not notice the rifle rack with rifles in the truck. He got chased for several miles and now he is a firm believer of "get outa my way". Better to get out of the way than to set off a nut or at least a tit for tat tailgating contest.

I will sometimes tailgate people who are going slow in the fast lane. If they do not take the gentle hints to move over and assuming they had plenty of opportunity to pull over, I will do my best to get around them and then let them tail gate me. I did this maybe once a week for about a month before this daily left lane bandit(45-50 in a 55 empty fast lane, with a line of cars behind) got the hint and started to drive in the right lane all the time. Everyone including myself is much happier now. He appears to be happy doing 45 in the right lane now.

I have only slammed on my brakes maybe a half dozen times in over 30 years of driving and usually felt angry and stupid when I was done. Usually ruined my attitude for the day. Now like I say, I go with the flow and get outa the way if I am slowing someone down.

I always like to do a brake check whenever there is a tailgater behind me. Just enough to make sure the brakes work and enough for the jackass to figure it out. Or i just got extremley slow until they pass.
