My dad used to have a '73 f-250 that had a switch panel that my grandpa wired before he sold the truck to my dad. The switch panel could control the trailer brakes, the reverse lights on the truck, parking lights, and brake lights on the truck. He just flipped a switch, and the tailgaters backed off in a hurry.

mount a lightbar with two of the lights facing the rear and hook them up to the cargo light switch. works pretty good at night. daytime, just leave a big mean and nast trailer hitch in the reciever.

When i had my 84 Chevy C-30 1 ton Flatbed service truck i had KC DAYLIGHTERS mounted on the top of the bed 1 each side & a beacon lightbar in the middle .

Those KC DAYLIGHTERS came in handy not only for being my eyes early in the mornings & late @ night for servicing our equipment but were also very usefull for tailgaters & folks who like to ride behind ya w/ thier brights on high beam .

Some times i wish a p/u had a gladhand handle like my Mack's do those also scare the heck out tailgaters also when ya pull the gladhand handle down & the trailer brakelights come on & the trailer goes to bouncing .

I had 1 tailgate me last night on a local narrow curvy backroad & they decide to pass me on a curve he had to take the ditch when a buddy of mine came around the curve w/ his CH613 Mack & hopper bottom w/ 1500 bushels of corn & almost hit him come to find out it was a 17 year old kid showing off in front of his girl ( talked to my buddy this morning who owns the Mack he knew the kid & his folks ) this kid wont be driving fer awhile his dad has the truck & keys & according to my buudy he about crapped on his self when he seen that bulldog about to bite him . they say it shook him up more than it did his girl .

Good thing everyones alright .

Yall have a goodone

I gotta admit that I hate tailgaters, but when I have one I get over as much as I can to let him/her by. I was a tailgater to someone once because my little brother was choking on his lolly-pop. I was trying to get him to the hospital because he started turning blue. This person slowed down and would not let me pass because they were side-by-side to another car. My hazards were on and everything, and they just sat there. Finally, my brother spat it all up. When I did pass them, I gave them a friendly 1-fingered wave and went on. From that day on, I haven't pissed off tailgaters.

While driving the Freightliner pulling the 53 footer westbound through Des Moines the other day, I was delayed due to traffic being backed up due to an accident.
Seems a car decided to get in between two FedEx trucks pulling doubles. First one braked, the car rear ended it, the second truck rear ended the car. Not a pretty sight. Don't know about injuries.
But that IS a very effective way to die.
Back off!!

Had a BMW 328IS try to run me off the road the other day with three cocky young guys driving it...thought it was pretty funny, mad that I didn't hit him...sometimes I play it safe in certain situations (this being one of them) but because he crossed the line into my lane I could of hit him and not been at fault, even taking out a mirror on a BMW is 1200$ Next time I wont hesitate, instead I pushed him into the shoulder scaring him a bit...but had he of decided to hit me I would of been at fault for being in his lane.

Bah. He started as tailgating then cut me off when I was in the right lane!!! So I got over to the left and passed him and sat paralell with the guy in the right lane (remember the BMW wanted the right lane really bad) anyway thats when it all started, tailgating bothers me but what gets me MAD is when people do things that cause other people to either be in danger or potentially in an accident that would then be there fault (ie; cutting me off and hitting the brakes when you can stop quicker then me...i rear end you and its my fault for following to close yet I didn't want you there in the first place!!!!)

Anyway, I honestly dont know what to do with idiots like that, other then take down plate and call cops or hit them if they are in my lane (I wonder how much damage he could do to my 79 F-150 as I slam into the side of him...oh no scratch my paint!!!...knock off a little rust? Motivate me into doing some body work )

That's why I keep a nice long hitch on the back of the truck... Hit me, I dare ya.
I HAVE had more than one person rear end my truck, thankfully, no damage to mine, but it's fun trying to dislodge a 2" ball from their radiator.. Civics hate that..

Tailgaters don't bother me until I can check their oil from the cab of my truck. Then, I just slow down. They can pass, or suffer.

DainBramage - I have one of those to. I leave my hitch with the ball on it stuck in my receiver all the time ( i bought one of these 2$ things to go over top of the ball so it doesn't rust)

Very good "rear end protection" against little cars lol.

You can usually tell the difference between someone being an a-hole and someone who needs to get through. As has been said I don't usually sweat it until they are opening my tool box in the back but then it's an issue. I had a lady get so close to me at night that I didn't even know she was there, when I hit the brakes for a turn she hit my hitch which completely tore off the top of her engine and hood. I felt bad but what could I have done. I could not even see her, at all.

I use to get upset over tailgaters. Then I moved to the Detroit area. Stupid stunts are not recommended here. Then again I have a new found respect for Motown since travelling through the abortion of a state called Illinois.

i had my fair share of close calls back in the day n all i want to do is kick back n cruise, weaving in n out of traffic defensive agressive drivin i done it all. after u get t boned by someone else driving like a idiot u slow down real fast, i am on the road 40+hrs and a few more wont kill me. i like all the fools that want to start road rage and get out of their cars so i can kick their ars , i hate drivin the wife compact b/c people instinctively stereotype u for what u drive. i am just trying to get home , they are supposed to be makin a hotline u can call to report road rage n junk. i think u should still just be s**t for thinkin u r better than the next guy, neighbor or elderly person. though i m not defending the darn stupid drivers out there because there r too many, just givin credit to the guy doin what he is supposed to be doin

I used to have a 72 with a manual choke. When I encountered a tailgater I would pull the choke out .
They would usually back off. The black smoke is too much. Nowadays fuel injection ruins this

Depending on how much of an **** you want to be I thought of another one today while I was having a chebby lumina inches from my trailer hitch...

(I didn't do this nor recommend it but it made feel better to think this while I was driving)

step 1) goto harveys and get yourself a #1 combo (or double burger combo if your really hungry) I have been getting a garden salad and shake *fries and shake if you want* Preferably the large shake.

step 2) eat your burger and fries/salad

step 3) drink 1/4 of your shake

step 4) as tailgater comes up behind you let your shake fly out your drivers window and he better hope he has winter wipers...summer ones just wont get the shake off quick nuff.

Bah. I hate tailgaters, been having a big problem with them lately...then when they try these suicidal passes... I usually wont let them in if they were bothering me enough. Make them slam on brakes and get back in behind me hehe.
