Some times I hit the brakes if I know they aren't to close...One time a guy pissed me off so bad when he went to pass me I speed up and then slowed down again..Lol

I've got a political message spraypainted on my tailgate, so I think that that tickes them off pretty good... I would be afraid to do anything more.

well I am gonna get harassed, but anyway- It says "Red, White and BRAINWASHED".. I put it on there for fourth of july because my old one that said "GO DOGS STATE AAAA CHAMPS" was coming off. When I got the truck, it had no tailgate, so I got one from the junkyard for $10, and it was black, and my truck is "Sequoia Brown Metallic" (poop brown if you ask me), so we spraypainted it.

My favorite thing is to oush yoru brake pedal just enough to trigger the lights but not enough to cause the brakes to work. Makes them back off fast.

Shoot, since the NFL preseason starts in less than two weeks, I was hoping we were talking about that kind of tailgater. The parking lot bbq kind.

or do slam on brakes, in almost EVERy situation, if someone hits you from behind, it is their fault. even if you pull out in front of them, as long as you are in the right lane... Just make sure you have full coverage so you can get a new paint job.

This reminded me of a question on my little bro's drivers ed test. Something like this:

What do you call someone who is following close behind you???
A. WIndshield washer
B. Bumpersticker
C. Tailgater
D. Drive-line

You know, A and d are definitely wrong but hey bumpersticker sounded good to us....So we always joke about tailgaters being bumperstickers.

I agree that it is almost irresistable to fight back when someone is tailgating in that tailgating is aggressive and threatening behavior. However, now that I am no longer young it has occured to me that the other guy will likely be able to kick my a** should we come to blows. Then, of course, in the year 2003 there is a fair chance that this guy is armed and/or cannot control his anger. Anyhow, I am doing my best to ignore the tailgaters. It's hard but I think it is probably the best way to go. The only thing is that there just seems to be a lot more of them anymore and a lot more aggressive driving in general. I have some theories on this but won't burden the group.

Tailgaiters infuriate me if I'm on a motorcycle or in a car. But don't you guys drive big trucks?? Sheesh in my F150 I just laugh and say enjoy the view...

I ignore them and continue on my merry way. If he hits me, it's his fault and I WILL get my vehicle fixed.
But when I am on my bike, I always slow way down ans stay close to the center of the two lane divider. If they try to pass, I speed up, if they ty to stay on my butt, I slow down even more. Once I even slowed, pulled to the right, let him pass, and followed him for 18 miles (in town)! I guess the poor fool thought I was gonne shoot him if he pulled over.

If someone wants to get ahead of me so badly that he/she is tailgating, I simply pull aside and let them pass. Granted, I'm usually a "quick" driver and such situations don't occurr with me often. Furthermore, when I am going slower than the guy behind me wants to go, I normally pick up on it before they get to the point that they're tailgating. That's when I look for a safe area without oncoming traffic, put on my hazzard lights, pull to the right, and wave them on. More often than not, I get a wave of appreciation from the other guy, and they seem to drive a little slower, too. Kill 'em with kindness everyone -- pissing people off only makes things worse.

On the other hand, if someone is tailgating me and conditions are such that I can't avoid (i.e. traffic ahead of me moving slowly, etc.) that's when I try to get a point accross. At night, flashing the fog lights installed on my back bumper usually gets the offending driver to back off. 110 watts of light in their eyes is very convincing. During the day, the regular bag of tricks already mentioned in this thread are put to use. Whenever possible, though, I just let them have their way. It's senseless for me to play games with them & just make the situation worse.
