Good Afternoon Everyone. Hot, overcast & muggy here today. Trying to get loose ends tied up here in Hawthorne. Hoping to have everything in Goldfield & Tonopah by months end. Then we will have a month before the wife returns to work. Have to go to Laughlin on Sun-Tues for wife's doctor visit, suppose to be a mild 110. Thank God for A/C. I'll just stay in the Aquarius Hotels swimming pool.
Jim I worked & stayed a few summers & winters in Sacramento back in the early 90s. 104 there felt like 124+ up here in Nevada. Then the fog in the winter was hard to deal with for me. Fresno is pretty much the same. But I liked Sacramento overall.
We don' get too much fog here, although we get more than most I guess, with the possible exception of San Francisco, however the heat here is brutal. The only thing I don't like about Fresno is the heat in the summer.
Good morning Nevada, happy Hump Day! Jim, I remember the fog would be horrible out there, driving at night from Lemoore to Fresno. You could barely see the end of the hood!
Yes indeed, I have not done it in awhile, but I do remember coming into Fresno from the south and seeing those visibility markers on the side of the road, and how sometimes you could see several, and other times none. Very disconcerting, especially wondering if everyone else is slowing down like me? I remember a year or two after I moved up here, there was a 90+ car pile up on the 99 in the fog, and of course everyone blamed the fog. Nobody mentioned the fact that they were all driving too fast for the conditions. Not even the CHP.
Happy hump day!
We got off early yesterday (thank God). It was so hot in the cab of the Terex even with the AC on full blast, I thought I was going to pass out.
Atleast today will be cooler since it rained last night.

Bought a new laptop today, an HP Pavillion with a 17 inch screen. I rented an HP last week from Aarons rents, but after paying it off over 12 months I would have given them $1,818. Pretty steep for a computer I can buy at Office Depot for $688. So, I decided to buy that computer and return the one I rented from Aarons at the end of the month. However, wen looking at the Office Depot website, I found this HP Pavillion (F053US) for $399 after a $50 mail in rebate, and it is better than my current one in every way except ram and the back lit keyboard. It only has 6GB of ram compared to the 8GB my current one has, and no back light for the keyboard. Considering I bought it for a fraction of the cost of what the other one would have cost me, I can live without the back light. And I believe this one has a max memory limit of 8GB, so when I can afford it, I'll upgrade. However, the biggest difference is the 17 inch screen. It is huge compared to the 15.6 inch screen on the other one. Didn't know two inches would make such a huge difference, of course, with the larger screen comes a higher resolution, this one maxes out at 1600x900 which is a huge leap over the 1336x768 of the 15.6 screen. One thing I will have to figure out though is the touch pad. They both have the same style touch pad that is all touch pad, no left or right buttons to click. Makes it impossible to right click anything with no mouse connected. And now I get to go through the joys of reinstalling everything on this one, and setting up all my bookmarks and programs. Woo Hoo! LOL.
Good Afternoon Gang. Jim one of the best tranny builders on the west coast is from Carthers. I worked with him in the 70s in San Jose. I think he moved back there years ago. Lost tough with him in the 80s.
I remember the fog in the Sacramento Delta being where you couldn't see the end of your hood, cars in ditches etc. I remember the fog setting in to Brentwood, Byron area for three & four days at a time. I could drive up Grant line Rd to the top of the mountain & it would be clear as a bell. You guys are right the fog always caused the accidents. Never driving too fast for conditions. If the speed limit is 65 drive 80 in the fog too.
Evening Everyone. Congrats on the new computer. That rent deal doesn't sound like a good deal. Now I know how they can sponsor a NASCAR team, or should I say you & others sponsor it.
No the rent deal never is a good one. It is usually two and a half times the cost of the same item in the store. They deal with customers who have low credit scores, so the customers are happy to get the item, and they make a huge profit. In the lease I signed, they claim the computer costs $1,025 in the local area. That is BS as Office Depot has it for $635. Also, the cost of renting it is $777. The remainder is taxes. They just started a lease online option, and I was the first one in Fresno to use it. They had a special running, that if you lease online your first month rent is only $25 (instead of $163). I don't fel bad about paying $25 for a month, knowing that I am returning it. LOL
