ignition switch question

1964 f100 . Having trouble re installing the lock cylinder into housing . I've pressed the pin and turned to the left . The notch lines up but I can't get the cylinder to slide back in. Any tricks to this ? Thanks.

A little patient wiggling worked for me.

Patience is the biggest trick. But there are three things to line up when you're sliding it back in--you've got the notches on the outside of the cylinder, which are relatively easy to line up by eye, and the "cam" I'll call it for lack of a better word that has to slip into the hole at the back of the housing. I had mine out about half a dozen times lately, and every time I had trouble getting it back in, that little cam was the issue.

What part are you calling a cam?

11572 is the spring loaded ignition switch. 10A885 is the spacer between the switch and the backside of the dash. 11584 is the ignition switch bezel. 11582 is the cylinder.

Thanks to all, I had the switch turned half a round out under the dash . Turned the switch around and the front bezel lined up with the two slots and the tumbler went in easily . Thanks.

Just the little doohickey sticking out the back that the red line is pointing at. Not a cam by function, just couldn't think of what else to call it. If it's turned the wrong way, the cylinder will never go all the way in and you'll invent some new dirty words. I'm assuming it holds part of the cylinder stationary while the rest of it turns.
