I think I have a battery issue but wanted to ask the group in case someone ran into this before.
Went to start my truck this morning and did the normal dead battery sound (****) but doesn't have enough power to turn the engine. I can see the engine start to turn but can't get over compression.
So I bought a new Interstate battery from Costco, installed it, and (****) same problem. Hooked up a charger and it showed 25%. Let it charge for 4 hours, now it's at 50% and still won't turn over.
I'm going to wait over night and let it charge, but I wanted to ask the group if there is any known problems (Beyond battery) that would do this.
before you get digging deeper. and certainly it still could be the cables and starter. But....another thing to check... take off the serpentine belt & try restarting...if it turns over freely....mostlylikely it is the A/C all locked up...or maybe the power steering pump or water pump
I pulled the starter after finding the 3rd bolt and then saw your message.
Starter is not the problem it's the AC clutch. One of the bearings is caught with the pulley.
Any advice on removing the pulley?
Thanks everyone!
Also how do I get the 3rd bolt back in?
Sorry, I just seen this post the day I responded
the good news is it is the A/C ....my other thought was a blown head gasket and the engine was hydrolocked
If you got the starter bolts out... they should go back in...might have to start the hard one 1st and then get the others in...IDK.
LOL. enriched&beyound, I hope you didn't take me too seriously with my where where you comment.
That was all a great help. I got the hub and clutch back in. My air gap is off on 3/4 sides.
What's the correct procedure to align the clutch and hub to get a proper air gap?
Thanks!
No I did take to that seriously
can you elaborate on the air gap.
If I understand correctly, in or on one spot it is at the correct gap & if you rotate the A/C clutch around, say 90 deg it gets wider and rotate about 180 deg away from where the air gap is correct it is the widest and rotate another 90 deg it starts to get closer to the correct air gap again?
If that is the case either the outer housing is bent or you don't have it seated evenly, AKA the new bearing / housing is still cocked on the shaft a bit. There might be a piece of crud not letting the it seat properly...so ya might have to take it apart again and clean things up & try again
