Question Door keys?

This might seem a silly question, BUT:

I recently purchased a 2006 E350 SD Extended cargo van with remote power locks (key fobs). The seller included two keys and two fobs with the vehicle. Both keys work in the ignition, but neither one works in ANY of the four door locks. Both keys can be inserted into the locks*, but will not turn.

*Perhaps unrelated, but neither key will insert fully into the DRIVER door lock---only about half way (maybe something jammed in there?).

I did shoot a little PB Blaster into each key opening, on the outside chance that they were all seized up with corrosion/gunk of some kind, but no improvement.

Any ideas as to else what I might try before calling the locksmith?

It sounds to me like the ignition cylinder was replaced and you got keys for that. The seller probably hoped you would not notice. I am assuming a locksmith could grind a key off the internals of the door locks, or if you have a key tag that came with the vehicle, you could have a key ground off of that code. (Guessing the door cylinders are original to the vehicle.)

Sounds to me like a visit to the locksmith is in order to keep from being locked out of the van if your battery ever goes flat...

I dunno if they went with chipped keys for the ignition by '06 (my '02 does not have chipped keys) but you have those keys already and the door keys do not need the chips in them.

Good luck,
George

I bought a complete set of matching lock barrels (4) and ignition barrel + 2 keys for my 92 E350 for the grand sum of $75 off Ebay. Genuine Fomoco parts too. Don't know if it the same set as your 06, but thats the way I would go. Must be cheaper than getting a locksmith involved, and really easy to change (although the ignition barrel was a bit of a mission!)

YoGeorge is on the right track here---I've dealt with this myself so here's how I did it, do as you see fit..............

I bought new OEM parts which tend to be rather pricey---the ignition cylinder was $90 not including assembly and keyed to fit existing locks. Individual door cylinders from the factory arrive in kits that need to be assembled and keyed to fit an existing key if not changing all key lockable cylinders.

Dorman does make keyed-alike door lock cylinders where you can specify the door location and at the same time order the ignition lock cylinder so you'd have just one key for everything. Keep in mind right side and left side lock cylinders are different in that the direction of key rotation to lock/unlock varies with the different sides. If that doesn't concern you then ordering any door lock cylinder will work, assuming you order what's appropriate to your year van.

PB Blaster and most other penetrating fluids aren't recommended by my locksmith buddy however he does use Liquid Wrench---it leaves a small amount of lithium grease behind. My other go-to locksmith outfit highly recommends Tri-Flow Superior Lubricant, available from Amazon etc.

BTW I can't speak to Dorman's quality over Ford OEM however overall they're a top notch company who supply skads of parts to OEM's that find their way into new vehicles.

HTH

You should be able to go to any Ford dealer, and threw the vin number, and proof of ownership, have a key cut that would fit the doors and the original ignition key switch, which seams to have been replaced in your case.

This would give you a different key for the door locks, but as YoGeorge wrote, give you some backup if the key fobs went bad.

If not, JWA's suggestion on ordering a complete set of replacement locks would be the next step.

I have a former Sears fleet van. My front doors and ign. are one key while my side and rear doors are different. Can anyone confirm this was an option that was ordered ?
