Isn't the door key the same as the ignition key on a 99? My 02 uses 1 key for the door an ignition.

If by push button you are referring to the keyless remote, it might just need a battery. Or go to ebay and pick one up cheap and you can program it yourself.

Ebay. They sell the keys online, and you can have them cut just about anywhere. No need for programming if you just want a door entry key.

The door key and the ignition key should be the same. If they're not, then the ignition was probably changed at some point. It's not uncommon for a lock to get punched and whoever replaces it doesn't rekey the doors to match.

I believe a competent locksmith should be able to determine what you need and cut you a key, but it's going to take someone who knows how to determine the key code from the lock.

Ignition and door are different for some reason. The keyless remote doesnt always work...usually works unless i'm out on a date...go figure! I was hoping to get one made from the vin number but ford dealer says they cant on anything over 10 yrs old. Maybe i will check with a locksmith.

Thanks for suggestions!

any self respecting automotive locksmith can re-key your doors to match the ignition key. If you can remove your door key-cylinders and give them to the locksmith it will be much cheaper than having the locksmith remove them.

I had to do this to my tailgate tumbler, took them 5 mins, i think they charged me $15 or $20.

Make sure your key isn't just worn. My key worked fine in my ignition, but i had to do some jiggling to get it to work in the door. The locksmith cut me a new key to match the tumbler, solved that problem!

also, replace the battery in your remote as others have said or buy new keyfobs if the battery isn't the problem.

Ford usually can't get the key code from a VIN if it is over 10 years old because the info "drops off" their system at 10 years. However, I got mine cut at my Ford dealer when my truck was almost 11 years old last year. I just asked them to check the VIN to see if it was still in the system and it was, so I got 3 keys cut by the dealer from the factory code and it only ran my $4 per key!

If I were you, I would just go to a locksmith and have tell them you want one key for the door and ignition. They will do whatever is best and can cut new keys that really work rather than make copies.

As for your keyless remote, I think you need a new battery. You might also open it up and check for corrosion.
