High milage key
Not sure what forum to ask this under so I figured "electrical" is pretty close to the ignition key.
I'm the original owner of a '97 E250 van with 210K miles. The door entry/ignition key is so worn that it barely opens the door locks any more. I keep WD40 sprayed in the locks to help but even that's no longer enough. Ignition still works OK, but I'm close to being locked out of the van.
Having a new duplicate key made is only as good as the worn one. Is there a way to get a fresh key from Ford by way of the VIN number?
Thanks

Not sure about the Ford/vin method, but I am sure you could take the door lock tumbler out, and take it to a locksmith, and he could figure out what you need from the tumbler. If you open the door, look in the jamb area of the door, at the same height as the round silver part where you put the key in. You will see a rectangular metal thing right at the inner edge of the door. Pry that out, and the tumbler should come out of the door.
