I have a 1986 f250 with a 3 speed automatic transmission, and my uncle has offered me his automatic transmission and transfer case he has in his garage from a 2001 f250 powerstroke, is there any way way install these onto my truck? thanks much.
yes.it's basically a late model E40D (renamed to 4r100) there are a few things you'll need for the swap though.it's not a simple bolt in,in place of the c6 and go type of deal.
so you can bolt the diesel 4r100 up to the idi along with the t-case,but you'll need to mod the cross member probably, drive shaft length adjustment, then you can either change a few things in the 4r100 to make it a e40d style setup (solinoind pack, front pump, shift linkage) and then you can use an oem 89-94 idi e40d TECA and harness or leave the 4r100 as is,and use an aftermarket controller with new harness.
either will set ya back a few hundred bucks, then you'll need a 4 bolt diesel converter as well cus the 6 bolt 4r100 wont work for your flexplate.
it's a great upgrade but probably would set ya back a grand or so either way ya go.
