ZF6 main case Question.

I've got a 02 f-250 4x4 with a 5.4L with a 6 speed. I Love the truck but planning on doing a diesel swap. I need a diesel bellhousing and I know the modular pattern won't work. My question is, if I bye a main front case or find a salvaged one for a 7.3L S6-650 or the 6.0L S6-750. Can I simply swap the modular 5.4L front case to a Diesel front case. I know I need to change the input shafts also, but as far as I've researched the internal are pretty much the same including the output shaft for the T-case. If I can I would rather go this route than bye a whole new transmission for two grand or take the chance on a used one. When mine shifts and works great. Any help would be appreciated.

It would seem a lot easier to buy a new one and then sell yours, you might even break even.

I'm starting to lean in the direction of getting a new one. But they are about two grand, and since my transmission is used and less desirable. I dont think get more than $1200 for it. I found a case and input shaft for a 7.3 for $200 that the oil cooler line rusted threw and cooked it. Getting a new one would be ALOT easier but my budget is making me explore all my options.

Be careful what you buy. The 6.0L and 5.4L have the same bolt pattern. The 7.3L pattern is unique.

The 6.0L powerstroke? I've read that the trition v8/v10 have a stand alone pattern. Destroked said that a Cummins flywheel/clutch wouldn't fit in these transmissions, but they would fit in the 7.3L or 6.0L. My transmission only has a 1 1/16" input shaft, wheir the Diesels have a 1 3/8". Im not planning on running a Cummins but the engine im planning on putting in should be around 900 ft lb of torque. Which I know would explode the 1 1/16" shaft.

I don't know about the input shafts. I do know that the 6.0L Powerstroke diesel engine has the same rear face of block bolt pattern as the Ford 5.4L/6.8L gasoline modular engines.

So would the flywheel and clutch from a 6.0L fit in my bell housing if I changed the input shaft? Cause I would MUCH rather do that, than change the whole front case.

Since the bellhousing is identical I can't see why it wouldn't fit in the bellhousing. I have no idea if it will bolt to the crankshaft.
