I'm finally workin on puttin my 6.9 together. I am wondering about the heads. Is that something easily tackled? What about the precombustion chambers? Or should I just get out my wallet?
Since no one with experience has replied I'll just say go with your gut. If you worked with heads before and feel comfortable go for it. Lapping valves is simple, a good torque wrench for the springs, the only thing I can think of that may require finesse is installing valve stem seals. If you have or can find the tools go for it.
Edit: There should be no reason to touch the pre cup or chamber, just see if there are substantial cracks in the pre-cup. AND get the head magnafluxed by a good reputable shop.
It's the metal ring around the cylinder on the head gasket. If the cracks on the precups pass through were this ring sits on the head it can create a leak point.
It will be obvious when you pull the head, the ring leaves its mark on the head and block.
I see what you are talking about. What are the chances of removing them without damage, for cleaning of the block? I've read, they are expensive and hard to find.
