This morning my son and I tried to start our project truck that has been sitting for a few weeks, it turned over but the battery was pretty low. We charged the battery for most of the day while working of the rear brakes (still not together), we tried to start the truck a while ago and could not get the ignition switch to turn, it feels like it is jambed. Anyone have any ideas?? The shift
lever (its a auto) is in park, I tried both side of the key. Will I have to pull of the steering wheel and put a new switch in?? It seems kind of weird to have this "just" happen...
If I have to pull the steering wheel, do I need anything special other than a steering wheel puller?
Thanks for the input, at first the steering wheel was not locked and the switch would not turn, I then moved the steering wheel until it locked and got the same results. I also tried holding the shift lever up, keeping it "high" in park with no luck.
My ignition cylinder is a PITA too, if I don't remove the key just right it will also jam the damn thing too. I'm getting better at getting it righted again and removing the key in a fashion that it likes but if I keep the truck long term I'll undoubtedly get it swapped out.
You got to use the correct set of keys..... 8^0
I have my father in-laws '67 Mustang at my house and my son and I grabbed the wrong set of keys, we noticed this last night as we were driving the Mustang and noticed that the keys we just used to start the car were the same set that we were trying to start the truck with.
BTW You don't have to pull the steering wheel to change the lock cylinder (where the key goes) or the ignition switch. Look at the pics in the GP Pics album in my signature link.
