Hi!
My Expediton had a dead battery and I did the following.
- Tried to start but it only clicked
- Jump start according to the manual
- Bought a new battery
-> nice start
But:
.. Volume control, media and search on the steering wheel is not working.
.. Radio turns off with the ignition but should be on until I pull the key out.
.. Emisson check blinks 8 times but then turns off
Nothing else so far.
Please help me as we need the car tomorrow and this already ruined my Thanksgiving mood.
Back from Ford.
The car lost it's memory and needs to be reprogrammed. To do this they need both keys and 1 hour of time. It will cost 100.-
I was told it is nothing unusual. So I wonder why nobody could help on here
So how long did you have the battery out of your expy which caused it to be reprogramed by the dealer?
Batteries are changed all of the time and do not require the vehicle to be reprogramed. How long is the memory retained before it requires reprograming?
My Explorer and Expedition experience indicates a dead battery can be an every week problem due to the non-switched accessory outlets.
I've resorted to "public safety spec batteries" and Priority Start boxes on both. These cut the battery off from the vehicle when battery voltage drops too low. If I had memory loss several times a month I'd be very unhappy. Yeah, I gotta reset the clock.
Ebay has many many of our radios for around $100. Easy to install. Takes about 10 minutes.
They need the part number that fits and all except one I saw matched with mine. They look all the same though, would build in but not work.
That is what I was told at Ford at both places.
Not worth the hassle for a basic stock radio.

If it was pulled out of the same year Expy it will work.
