4x4 linkage

i recently took my tranny out of my truck and when i put the manual 4x4 shifter back in i couldnt put the linkage back on the transfercase right... it stays on but when you shift it once or twice it the linkage slips off as id the rod it goes on is too big.. any thoughts???

Sounds like

A. you do not have the linkage on right

or

B. the nylon bushing is no good

the linkage is definately on right but how do i check the nylon bushing?

if it keep popping off then the bushing is bad
