Hey guys, I just stumbled on a fairly recent work receipt while looking through my glove box, and on it it said the carb was tuned, the timing set to 15 degrees BTDC, and the dwell was 39 degrees. does this sound right? I have the 240ci Straight-6, and in my service manual, it said the timing should be 6 degrees BTDC. Also, Can anyone post photos of their flareside beds with the wood stakes on the sides?
How does it run? Starts easy, etc?. Dwell for a six is typically 36 - 38 at idle. The timing may seem a little hot, but so long as it runs well and doesn't ping under heavy load or acceleration it should be OK. May have to back it off for substandard fuel.
Some Fords have two piece crankshaft balancers, the vibrations are damped by rubber in between. Not sure about the sixes, maybe that's what you're seeing though. They tend to slip off their axis as they age and make the timing marks inaccurate. Bring #1 cylinder TDC and see if the pointer indicates correctly.
Yeah, thats exactly what I was looking for, that looks great, some close-ups would be awesome. Period correct? I love the color of Your F100 too, thats killer!
I made them from scratch so whether or not they are "period" is a toss up...That color is Lexus Medium Green and has some gold in it which pops in the sun..
I just today took them apart to Varnish. If you need more pics after next week let me know - I should be finished with the varnish then. By the way this is Southern Yellow Pine - same as my bed.
