Bed panels

So my truck is suffering from the usual rear fender rot. A few body shops told me to find the entire skin because apparently the repair patch will just rust out wherever the weld is. But why do they even sell those repair patches if thats the case? Anyway heres the capa certified bed skin from rockauto. What have you guys done to fix fender rot?

I cant find a decent used bed near me on long island. Everything is a rusty mess.

Yeah i was on tabco looking at the same kind of thing but it still requires cutting the bed and welding which i was told would create another rust problem. Seems like alot less work though.

Properly prepped & sealed, welding will NOT create "another problem"... And if you can MiG weld, they are pretty straight forward: I have to do this to my bed & the rear corner of my cab, as well... And you can trim them down, to do a smaller patch if desired...

Because there will always be a market for cheap, quick fixes.

And here's a thread about replacing bedsides you might want to look at.
