Do you have an Autozone near buy?
Get your hands on a Scanguage II
Have a look at this page for the programming info.
You will find it well worth the cost. Also it can be used
almost all OBD2 Port cars and trucks. Ford/Lincoln/Mercury Specific : Linear Logic : Home of the ScanGauge
Some observations........................
On my way to work this morning I tried to start it, no start.
I plugged in the block heater and put a charger on batteries.
when I came home at lunch I added 1/2 quart of oil and took out oil filter for a look at it.
Put filter back in and tried it, it started fairly decent.
So I took it for a short ride came home and shut it off.
Started and shut it off 3 times, thought maybe all was good.
Left it sit for 1/2 hour and it wont start again.
My oil filter is a Baldwin made in the USA and is the same as the one I took out.
Dig out a multimeter and check the float voltage on the batteries, and the voltage from KOEO until it's been running at least 120 seconds for the glow plugs to shut off. Then test the FICM: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...procedure.html

So I didn't have time to do the test as I had to go back to work.
I put battery charger on but didn't plug in block heater.
It started when I came home 3 hours later.
Ill probably have to haul it to town unless something pops up here to change things.
Hard to get into a garage around here , my favorite place is a 2 week wait.
Not many diesel techs either around.
The ONLY thing Youy need to do now is get some gauges. With a Droid device, it will cost $25. Surely it's worth that to keep from getting shafted by a "mechanic". The 6.0s are great engines, but the reputation is so poor mechanics see $$$$$ when over pulls in. Even dealerships will "repair" things that don't need repair.
Getting torque pro will be the best $25 you will spend in the next 10 years.

Do you use this? I went to link and looked at it but cant tell if it would work on all 3 of my diesels?
I have a 7.3 , 6.0 and a 6.4?
on the Scan Gauge you have to switch the engine size also some pids specific for 7.3 , don't know about the 6.4 , may have to visit the 7.3 and 6.4 forum and get what there using to monitor or at least the pids to enter . there's 25 spots
I really haven't seen you acknowledge that getting a gauge system is worth it (apologize in advance if I missed it). It really is a very important tool to have. If you don't have something that reads engine parameters, further guessing has a high potential of only bringing frustration (and costing money).
So I put new batteries in it. Started every time for 3 days. Now its back to starting about 3 out of 4 trys?
So, you're willing to spend $300 or so for new batteries ??
But won't spend $150 for a ScanGauge II - that will HELP DIAGNOSE the problem ! ! ! !
This is going to get Very Expensive for you.
It has to turn/spin over for a long time before it starts.
Injector Control Pressure (ICP) must build up to around 500-550 for engine to start. What's yours??
Fuel Injector Control Modue (FICM) main volts must be over 44 (48.5 is typical) What's yours??
Cam/Crank Sync must = 1. FICM Sync must = 1. What's yours??
ScanGauge II will allow you to monitor the above (and 30 other) parameters.
I use mine every time I get behind the wheel (even check some things Before turning the Key to On or Start).
I'll also suggest the scangauge II.
I bought one to diagnose a hard start.
Thought it may have been the batteries, FICM, etc. and what I found was that it was the alternator not putting out enough power to keep the batteries charged (which sounds like it may be an issue for you as well.) I had the system load tested at Advance Auto for free to confirm
